A mice infestation in the garage where the author was working on a mural project led them to change their capstone project. They decided to work on an animation storyboard instead that would better benefit their future degree and career in interactive arts. The author had been working on the storyboard periodically for a couple weeks. They researched animation principles and did practice studies to prepare. There is still work to be done on finishing keyframes, in-between frames, backgrounds, and polishing animation.

Since the last blog update a major problem has occurred in the garage, where I drafted and

sketched my mural. A mice infestation took place and most of them had taken shelter within the
closets and cracks in the garage. There is Lot of mice's feces and urine but it was advised to not
clean it as it marks their territory and they will often go back to it. So far we’ve caught 10 mice
but we still aren’t sure how many are left. This meant there were a lot of mice traps and remains
in the garage now making it extremely difficult to work on the capstone.

I was hoping that the situation would fix itself in a week but even after a week I would open mt
door and see a mouse scurry away.

Because of these problems I decided to change my capstone into something that I’ve been
working on in my personal time for my portfolio that I plan on sending to SFU. It’s my first
storyboard that I’ve been working on on and off for the last couple weeks. I decided to switch
because it better benefits my future to my degree and career in interactive arts and technology.

Although I have been working on this project for as long, I truly believe it is the best course of
action and more beneficial to my future as I made this project to put into my art portfolio. This
also exercises extremely important skills I need in 2d 3d animation and composition courses I
plan on taking in the future.

For preparation I did much research and spent many hours watching videos on how my
programs work, and learning the 12 principles of animations.

Squash and stretch

Anticipation
Staging
Straight-ahead action and pose-to-pose
Follow through and overlapping action
Slow in and slow out
Arc
Secondary action
Timing
Exaggeration
Solid drawing
Appeal

In this project, a lot has happened that I never recorded. Skipping through the rough animation
practices, studies and work I did to prepare myself for this project. The first thing I did was break
down the song overplayed into parts. This way it was possible to make the storyboard change
and move according to the song. This is extremely important and practice many fundamentals
of animation such as timing, staging, pose to pose, anticipation, and much more. It was
extremely challenging to add these fundamentals on my first full project. In the practices I only
did one of the fundamentals at a time. This was a huge learning experience but I still have a
while until I am done
Now my goal is to finish all my keyframes and then after doing that finish all the in between fram
es. Then I will have to fill in the foreground and background, draw the setting, and redraw a
lot of keyframes, add consistency to the frames. There's a lot more work to be done, but as I k

p working, the speed of how fast I can work speeds up as I get better at drawing each frame.I thi
nk that the most important thing to keep in mind whilst making this is that the most valuable thing I
gain from this project is the experience as I will keep doing this as a career so whilst this is my
first step, I will be ru
