Final Reflection

The document discusses how the author used the design thinking model in completing their Scientific Research Proposal (SRP). It involved an iterative process of sharing drafts with peers for feedback, which helped refine and improve the paper. It also emphasized divergent thinking and generating a variety of ideas during brainstorming. The author argues these principles of design thinking also apply to fields like physics, by aiding in refining proofs, problem-solving methods, and experimental procedures. Overall, the design thinking model enhanced collaboration and innovation for the SRP and provides benefits for mathematics and physics courses by cultivating continuous improvement and creative skills.

In pursuing academic excellence, the design thinking model emerges as a transformative

tool in formulating and presenting Ideas. This methodology encompasses a step-by-step user-

centric process that emphasizes the complete understanding of a problem and refining these ideas

ensuring that the research resonates with professors, peers, and the broader academic community.

Incorporation of the design thinking model into the completion of my Scientific Research

Proposal (SRP) fosters a collaborative dynamic contributing to the layers of innovation and

exploration of multiple ideas. The iterative and divergent thinking that come with the design

thinking model played a pivotal role in completing my SRP however, beyond the confines of my

SRP the design thinking model holds many advantages in its application to physics.

The design thinking model involves an iterative process, promoting constant refinement

through prototyping and testing. In the context of the SRP, this methodology emphasizes seeking

feedback at multiple stages of the work, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas. The process

involves sharing early drafts or pivotal sections of the paper with peers or advisors. Through this

collaborative approach, the researcher gains valuable insights and perspectives, enabling the

incorporation of diverse viewpoints. As a result, the iterative feedback loop becomes an

invaluable tool in honing the clarity, coherence, and depth of the paper. By using the collective

expertise of those involved, this iterative feedback process ensures that the research paper not

only aligns with academic standards but also resonates with its intended audience. Ultimately,

this dynamic cycle of feedback and refinement stands as a key component in crafting a well-

received and impactful research paper.

Design thinking places a profound emphasis on divergent thinking, a process that

encourages the generation of a broad spectrum of ideas and solutions. This facet of the
3

methodology is particularly valuable during the initial phases of research paper development,

namely ideation and brainstorming. By fostering an environment that embraces diverse

perspectives and potential solutions to research questions, design thinking stimulates a creative

approach to problem-solving. In the context of a research paper, the benefits are profound. The

variety of ideas not only enriches the content but also catalyzes innovation. It prompted me and

my group members to venture beyond conventional boundaries, leading to more nuanced

insights and, ultimately, a more comprehensive and impactful research paper. This emphasis on

divergent thinking ensures that the scholarly work is not a mere compilation of research but

evolves into a dynamic exploration of the subject matter.

The principles of design thinking, specifically the iterative feedback process, and

emphasis on divergent thinking, extend to diverse academic disciplines like math and physics,

bearing significant relevance to careers in physics. In mathematics courses, the iterative feedback

process finds specific applications in the refinement of proofs and problem-solving methods. For

instance, when tackling complex mathematical theorems, an iterative approach can be employed

by sharing initial proofs with peers and instructors and receiving feedback on coherence and

clarity. This collaborative feedback loop ensures that work aligns with mathematical reasoning

and is well-communicated. Additionally, in applied mathematics courses where problem-solving

is prevalent, iterative feedback becomes instrumental in refining computational methods and

algorithms. Furthermore, In physics courses, the iterative feedback loop is directly applicable to

experimental design and data analysis. As we engage in hands-on experiments, sharing

preliminary results allows for constructive criticism and refinement of experimental procedures.

This iterative process enhances the reliability and precision of experimental outcomes. In

theoretical physics, the application of design thinking principles involves refining mathematical

models and theoretical frameworks through collaborative discussions. Peers and mentors can

provide valuable insights that contribute to the development of more accurate theoretical

predictions. These specific applications of design thinking principles in mathematics and physics

not only enhance academic performance but also foster a mindset of continuous improvement

and creative problem-solving skills that are highly transferable to my future career in physics.

In conclusion, integrating the design thinking model into my SRP enhanced collaboration

and innovation, with iterative and divergent thinking playing pivotal roles. Beyond the SRP,

design thinking offers specific benefits to mathematics and physics courses, refining proofs,

problem-solving methods, and experimental processes. These skills not only contribute to

academic success but also lay a foundation for future careers in physics, emphasizing

adaptability and innovative thinking across disciplines.
