Explanation to the SMS-F26-A01:
Vessel Enter vessel's name
Voyage Enter voyage number
Mean Draft Enter current vessel's mean draft (metres)
LBP Enter length between perpendiculars (metres)
Displacement Enter current vessel's displacement (tons)
Breadth Enter breadth of the vessel (metres)
Full Ahead Speed Enter the maximum speed in knots the vessel may achieve at her full speed ahead
Enter the maximum squat in metres the vessel may experience at full speed ahead regardless of the vessel condition and waters. This information
Vessel's Maximum Squat
shall be found from the manoeuvring booklet or bridge poster.
WP1 Enter waypoint number or geographical location, port etc. in accordance with the passage plan
Leg of Passage
A It could be also name of waypoint or geographical location
Date of Passage 09.05.2016 Enter the date of passage of this particular leg
Time of Passage 21:00 Estimated time of passage, normally this is a time of suitable tide
Area of Navigation Confined Enter from drop-down menu: Open Waters, Confined Waters or Berth. The detailed explanation is given in the SMS-F-26 UKC and Squat
Waters procedure.
Enter from drop-down menu: Underway, SBM/CBM, At Anchor or Channel.
Vessel Operation Underway Channel is only required to be selected when the width of the channel restricted in width by banks, canal borders of riverbed is LESS that 10x
breadth of the vessel. Otherwise when navigating in Confined Waters select Underway.
If Channel is selected only then enter the width of channel. It is a relatively difficult to estimate in real-life situation a ship's behaviour in Channel
Channel Width (metres) 100 or Canal however considering width of Channel would give an opportunity to calculate squat in Channel more precisely. The width of Channel
should be entered in metres.
Depth 15.00 Enter a depth for which evaluation is to be made. In the normal course of event it is a charted depth. (metres)
Depeest Draught 14.00 Enter the Deepest Draught in salt water (density 1.025). (metres)
Initial UKC 1.00 The form automatically calculate the initial UKC without any factors being taken into consideration.
These are various factors which should be included in the UKC calculation. Enter negative value with a minus sign. All factors are in metres.
VARIOUS FACTORS
When the ECDIS is used as a primary means of navigation the following to be selected from the drop-down menu:

A1/A2 (5-6*) - Five to Six stars ECDIS Symbol. All significant seafloor features detected; very high and high accuracy survey;

B (4*) - Four stars ECDIS Symbol. Uncharted features dangerous to navigation are not expected but may exist; medium accuracy survey. In
'Confined Waters' the Company UKC policy will be increased to 15%;

CATZOC - Category A1/A2 (5-6*) C (3*) - Three stars ECDIS Symbol. Depth anomalies may be expected; low accuracy survey or passage soundings. In 'Confined Waters' the
Company UKC policy will be increased to 15%;

D (2*) / U - Two stars ECDIS Symbol. Large depth anomalies may be expected; poor quality data, U - Quality of bathymetry yet to be assessed.
In 'Confined Waters' the Company UKC policy will be increased to 15%;

Tidal Height 3.00 The predicated height of tide.

Tidal Surge -0.30 Tidal Surges, such as those that occur on the River Seine. Advice on tidal surge should be sought from local port authorities.
Water Density Changes -0.25 This is increase in draft due to fresh water allowance.
Sea and Swell Allowance This is NOT the actual Sea and Swell but the actual increase of draft due to sea and swell and vessel's motions and it is a matter of the personnel
-0.50
experience how to estimate this increase.
Reduced Depth over Pipelines References should be made to the charts and advice of the pilot should be sought if there is any doubt that there might be reduced water depth due
-0.20
to pipelines.
Ship's Draft Tolerance The accuracy of the known draft should be estimated and if applicable tolerance should be indicated. Consideration should be given as to how the
-0.05
ship's draft was obtained - loading computer or visual observation and factors which may reduce accuracy of observation.
Hogging and Sagging -0.25 It may be the case that if the vessel experience Sagging or Hogging.
Increase of Draft due to Heel/List This is increase in draft due to heel. For example, a large ship with a beam of 50 m can be expected to increase her draft by about 0,5 m for every
-0.30
1° of roll.
Other (Specify) You may include any other factors which are not listed above and specify by adding (Text) in bracket.
Total All Factors 1.15 The form will automatically calculate the factors allowing for both negative and positive values.
UKC CALCULATIONS The form is designed to calculate UKC and Squat automatically.
Company UKC Policy (%) 10% Depending on the selected Area of Navigation the form will automatically indicate applicable Company UKC policy.
Company Minimum Allowed UKC (m) 1.40 The form will automatically calculate the minimum allowed UKC to comply with the Company UKC policy.
Maximum Speed to Counter Squat Effect 2.8 The form will automatically calculate the maximum speed to ensure that the vessel in compliance with applicable Company UKC policy.

Enter speed in knots at which it is planned to navigate this part of voyage. Further reduction of speed may be required to comply with applicable
Planned Speed through the Water (knts) 4.0
Company UKC policy.

Estimated SQUAT (m) 0.20 The form will automatically calculate the estimated squat at the planned speed.

Calculated Available UKC (m) 1.50 The form will automatically calculate the UKC at the planned speed taking into account all various factors as selected above.

Calculated UKC (%) of Deepest Draught 7.5% This cell will calculate the UKC as a percentage of the deepest draft

The form will indicate automatically if planned passage on this leg is in compliance "Yes" with applicable Company UKC policy or not -"Not
Not Comply, Comply, DRA". DRA - Detailed Risk Assessment is required and the Company approval prior to proceed. None compliance does not
Compliance with UKC Policy DRA automatically mean that the vessel can not proceed. However operation with UKC below the Company minimum requirements o shall be
approved by the HSSE SI based on DRA.

The form will indicate automatically if planned passage on this leg is in compliance "Yes" with applicable CATZOC Policy or not "CATZOC
DRA". DRA - Detailed Risk Assessment is required and the Company approval prior to proceed. None compliance does not automatically mean
Compiance with CATZOC Policy CATZOC DRA
that the vessel can not proceed. However operation in Confined Waters where CATZOC is 'U' or 'D' and UKC is less than 50% of deepest draft
shall be approved by the Company based on DRA.

This cell will automatically calculate Safety Depth. This value shall be a minimum value which should be entered into ECDIS. The entered
Safety Depth to Comply with UKC Policy 8.0
safety depth will indicate all soundings which are the same or shallower in bold, and assist in visualising the actual safe water.
