2 | Project 2 Reflection - Script (Assignment)

Writing the first draft of "The Write Connection" script was an exciting yet challenging
experience. The most challenging part of this project was finding a way to seamlessly weave
the diverse ideas presented by Jimmy Butts, Jill Parrott, and Allison D. Carr into a coherent
and engaging discussion. It required careful planning and organization to ensure that each
character's perspective was clear and distinct. Additionally, naming the part of my identity or
experience that was hard to name was an exercise in reconciling my own beliefs about
writing with the perspectives of the characters in the script.

The concepts and ideas presented in the script were sometimes difficult to wrestle with. The
notion that the writing process is essential for improvement, as advocated by Jimmy Butts,
seemed logical and convincing. However, Jill Parrott's perspective, which posited that some
individuals are innately gifted as writers, challenged my preconceived notions. It was a
struggle to navigate these opposing ideas and create a balanced discussion within the script.

The part of the script that I found easiest and most rewarding was the Act 3: Your
Conclusions. It allowed me to step back from the characters' perspectives and reflect on the
key takeaways from the discussion. This segment provided an opportunity to synthesize the
ideas presented and draw meaningful insights from the conversation.

The revision process was crucial in refining the script. One of the comments I received from
a peer was about the need to clarify the distinctions between the characters' viewpoints. I
worked hard to make each character's perspective more distinct and ensured that their
arguments were clear and compelling. This feedback helped me understand the importance of
providing clarity in a discussion.

Seeing what my peers were writing in their scripts was indeed helpful. It provided a broader
perspective on how different individuals approached similar topics. It made me realize the
importance of acknowledging and respecting diverse viewpoints, not only in scriptwriting but
also in writing in general. It encouraged me to be more open to different perspectives and
incorporate them into my work when relevant.

In terms of the final product, I hope that the readers notice the balanced presentation of
diverse viewpoints and the clear articulation of each character's perspective. I would like to
draw attention to the rhetorical choices made in the script, especially how the characters'
audience and purpose influenced their writing styles. The most effective rhetorical decision,
in my opinion, was tailoring each character's language and tone to their intended audience, as
this highlighted the impact of audience awareness on writing.

If I had more time to work on this project, I would delve deeper into the characters'
backgrounds and personal experiences to provide a richer context for their perspectives. This
would add depth to the discussion and make it even more engaging.
Through this project, I learned the importance of acknowledging the diversity of opinions in
the writing world and how to balance contrasting perspectives within a single piece. The
blogs, which provided insights into various aspects of writing, helped me think about my text
in a new light and encouraged me to be more open to different ideas and approaches. Overall,
this project has not only enhanced my writing skills but also broadened my understanding of
the complexities of the writing process.
