CAMBRIDGE LOWER SECONDARY GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES 8
Suggested answers:
Global perspective Global Learning Partnership – mobile phones mean more and more young people around the globe
have access to education through technology; UNESCO – young people are motivated to use
mobile phones for learning so participation is high, and skills and knowledge better than gained
from a normal classroom/lesson.
National perspective Sub-Saharan Africa – Worldreader (2G network provided by the government) has more than
4000 books for different age groups – reading helps with vocabulary and grammar, learning
English, memory, focusing, lowering stress, giving better sleep.
Personal perspective Writer of article (Brandon March) has experience of both school and learning on own. He thinks
there are advantages and disadvantages to both. He missed social interaction by not being in a
school environment. He thinks technology will improve so that learning via mobile phone is not so
solitary.

3 a The national perspective of sub-Saharan Africa is that young people learn from
reading, so the government has provided access to Worldreader for youngsters
not only to learn English vocabulary and grammar but also to aid in writing, to
improve memory and focus, and to reduce stress.
b For example, I think that the national perspective of sub-Saharan Africa shows
that there are a lot of benefits of using mobile phones for learning. I think that
other governments also need to provide free 2G network coverage and basic
mobile phones so that more youngsters around the world can access Worldreader
and other applications for learning.
