An oil change can be done at home for less money than paying a shop. The basic steps are to lift the vehicle, drain the old oil into a pan, remove the old filter, fill the new filter with oil, refill the engine with fresh oil, check the oil level, dispose of the old oil and filter, and lower the vehicle. Following these steps allows anyone to complete an oil change themselves with basic tools.

HOW TO DO A OIL CHANGE

A oil change can be scary for some people but in theoretics it is very easy and by
these steps. We believe that it is a lot easier than people make it on to be and
can’t be something that everybody can do instead of going to a shop and paying
$30-$100 more for the same job that you can do at home. The supplies normally
needed are ratchets or a battery powered ratchet as well as a bucket or drain pan
for the oil as well as the filters, jacks, and ramps.

1. Park your car on a flat level surface.

2. Lift the vehicle with ramps or with jack stands.

This can be done with ramps, or a jack stand under the
car in order to safely keep the car in the air.
3. Locate your drain plug and oil filter which are
underneath the vehicle. The drain plug is normally
under the engine and the oil filter is normally right
under the engine. You can use your hand or a oil filter
tool to loosen the filter.
4. Drain out the old oil. This is easily done with a
drain pan that you can by from the auto store or a
bucket will also do.

5. Unscrew your old oil filters.

6. Take your new oil filter and fill with the correct
amount of oil and put some oil on the rim of the gasket.
The gasket is the ring on the inner lip of the top of the
filter. Normally filling the filter with around a quarter
way up with oil is perfect.
7. Refill your engine with the fresh new oil. In your
cars manual or on the oil cap it’ll tell you the correct
type of oil your car needs as well as how much oil.
8. Check oil level by using the dipstick to make sure
you have the correct amount of oil.

9. 9. Dispose of your old filter and oil at an auto

parts store (easiest way).

10. 10. Lower the vehicle and check for any leaks.
Reset your maintenance light or log the mileage of your
car. Checking for leaks consist of going over all the
steps you did and wiping off any excess oil. You can also
check the bottom of the engine to make sure no leaks
are present.

This is the easiest way and most simple way to get an

oil change done and with these instructions you should
feel more confident and ready to tackle your next oil
change!
