COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course enables students to broaden their understanding of relationships and extend their problem-
solving and algebraic skills through investigation, the effective use of technology, and abstract reasoning.
Students will explore quadratic relations and their applications; solve and apply linear systems; verify
properties of geometric figures using analytic geometry; and investigate the trigonometry of right and acute
triangles. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step
problems.
The mathematical processes are to be integrated into student learning in all areas of this course.
CONNECTION TO OUR CATHOLIC FAITH
Students will apply Christian values to pose and solve problems, to make logical decisions, and to become
critical thinkers who share their abilities for the benefit of all in their classroom and school community. A
supportive mathematics classroom provides a caring and sensitive environment where the dignity and value
of all students is respected and affirmed as they grow in confidence in their mathematical abilities.
Mathematical investigations will promote a respect for God’s creation and an understanding of the need to
use resources wisely.

MATH POLICY LETTER
Welcome to Mathematics! The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the guidelines and policies within our
classroom. If at any point there is an issue needing to be discussed, do not hesitate to see me personally.
LATES
Lessons start immediately. Repeated lates will result in lunch detentions. If late due to a test/talking to a teacher etc.,
please come with a note. After 5 or more lates, the issue will be directed to appropriate vice principle.
ATTENDANCE
Students are responsible for the work missed when absent. Missed class notes should be copied on own time. All
homework assigned during the absence must be completed for the next day. Homework outlines for courses, listing
daily homework assigned, enables students to see what work is expected of them over a two week period and
encourages time management skills.
CLASS CONDUCT:
• no electronic devices • full uniform
(will be confiscated if seen) • bathroom breaks after lessons
• assigned seating • Lesson, Questions, Homework
GRADES: All student grades will be provided through D2L. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to review grades
regularly with their child. Parents/Guardians can gain access to grades by asking for login information to D2L from
their child. Marks are continuously updated after major evaluations.
ASSIGNMENTS: Any assignment handed in late will receive a deduction of 5% if handed in one day late. An
additional 5% deduction will occur if handed in 2 days late. The same penalty will occur if the assignment is
handed in 3 days late. Assignments cannot be handed in after being 3 days late and the assignment will be given a
mark of zero.
If a student is absent on any days when an assignment is due (or overdue) it is the responsibility of the student to make
sure their assignment is still handed into the teacher.
HOMEWORK
Homework logs will be provided to keep students on track and parents up to date. Random homework checks will take
place. Every day's homework is considered an assignment and can be collected at any moment for evaluation.
NOTE: With the exception unforeseen circumstances, there will be no rewrites of evaluations. This includes
students wishing to have additional opportunities to improve their overall average.
CHEATING
If a student is suspected cheating, an automatic mark of zero will be assigned. It is advised not to have cell phones
present during evaluations as students are tempted to even just check the time. Any involvement of cell phone will be
deemed as cheating.
CALCULATORS
All students are to bring a 2-Line Scientific Calculator with them to class EVERYDAY. Students who do not have
Scientific Calculators are not able to participate in most high school math activities.
TEXTBOOKS
Teachers will provide each student with a textbook or workbook. It is the responsibility of the student to maintain the
textbook or workbook and return it in its original condition. Students will be charged a replacement cost (as indicated
on the Course Information Sheet) for the textbook or workbook if it is lost or damaged.
By checking the box, I acknowledge that I have read the Policy letter.
