Resting heart rate: 77

Fitness Background
My client used to play basketball for 3 years every week day. When playing basketball, he
would practice ball handling and shooting for an hour and 30 mins. My client played with a
team of 5 at school and at home. He has also been playing volleyball for 2 years. My client
plays every week day except for wednesdays for an hour and 30 mins. My client loves
playing volleyball and it is one of his favourite hobbies. He was chosen for the waisal team at
ARIS and is travelling to Nigeria to play against other West African Volleyball teams.
My client also performs dofferent workouts at home such as chest exercises, biceps and
triceps, pushups, situps and pull ups. He does 3 sets of 12 reps

Schedule:
My client plays volleyball on Monday and Friday morning and tuesdays and thursdays
afternoon. When he goes home, he works out and does pushups, curls, dips, pushups, and pull
ups (3x12)

Injury:
My client has broken his right wrist in 2021 while playing basketball.

The activity my client wants to focus on:

- Setting
- Spiking
Goal
Skill(physical): My client wants to improve more on his setting. When playing volleyball, he
has a position as a setter therefore wants to perfect it. My client seems to have trouble
directing the ball at times and may get confused. By the end of this unit, my client should be
able to set and have a good sense of direction while doing so. My client also wants to
improve his spiking. Ive noticed that sometimes when he spikes he doesnt apply all his power
to the ball causing the spike to be weak and ineffective. In order for my client to improve
both his setting and spiking, he must follow these drills:

Setting
- Setting with a wall:
- This drill involves the use of a wall in which my client will stand right infront
of it. The right food must be forward with the left foot back. Hands must be
cufferd around the ball. Perform baby sets on the wall. This exercise will help
my client with ball control. My client
will perform this drill both up and down
of the wall. He will do this for 5
minutes

- Set to yourself, set to your partner

- When setting to your partner it is important to hit the ball high so that they
have enough time to reach for it. This drill will help my client have the same
feel as a match in which he would
be working with me to perfect his
setting. When performing this
drill, one leg must be behind the
other and it should be balanced.
- Throw the ball, set the ball
- In this drill, I will throw the ball to my client so that he can set it back to me.
WIth the use of the drills above, my client should be able to set the ball back
to me no matter what direction I throw it at. This is good for him to perfect the
direction in which the ball is being thrown at.

Spiking
- This exercise involves me tossing the
ball to my client and him spiking it
back to me in my direction. This will
help my client to be consistent with
spiking. We will do this 10 times

- The next exercise involves me standing in the setting area. I will toss the ball to my
client and he will run and spike. This will give my client a game feeling of spiking in
which he will get used to the practice and be able to perform in games. My client must
be able to jump to the ball and hit it with all his power. We will practice this until
perfection is achieved.

Skill (health and mental): When watching my client play volleyball, I realized that he must
improve on his confidence and needs constant motivation to be at his best. I think that once
he knows that he has support he can do it. My client may struggle a bit and encouraging him
may allow his performance to improve. Saying words such as “good job” and “im proud of
you” can properly push my client into doing his best. This will make him want to try harder
and succeed. He also needs more practice with shooting. I will motivate him by giving him a
pep talk and cheer him on the way. I will also try to create a connection with him outside of
class so he becomes comfortable working with me. Creating a personal connection is
important since it helps me as a coach, bring the best out of my client.
