Advertisement for the Position of Project Associate to Implement a Project Granted by

Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology (MeitY)

Applications are invited from the interested candidates for the post of project associate to work
on an R&D project at Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NIT Goa. The position
is purely temporary and is initially offered for one year which can be further extended based on
the performance of the candidate.

Position Project Associate
Salary Rs 22,000-25,000 per month (consolidated) depending on the
qualification/experience
Minimum Qualification M.Tech./M.E./B.Tech./B.E. in Computer Science and
Engineering/ Electrical and Electronics Engineering/Electronics
and Communication Engineering with at least 6.5 CGPA or 60
percent marks in aggregate from a recognized institute or
university in a full-time program.
Desirable Qualification • A strong knowledge and working experience in machine
learning and data analytics
• Experience of using neural networks and deep learning
• Ability to read research papers from standard conferences and
journals, comprehend the methodology used and implement to
reproduce the result quoted in the paper
• Experience of working on projects involving speech processing
is helpful
• Experience of working on large real time projects
• GATE/NET qualification

Brief description of the project:

India exhibits unity in diversity not only in culture and religion but also in languages spoken by
people. Language plays a vital role in communication among people as well as in accessing
information and building an inclusive society. India is home to 22 constitutionally recognized
languages. However, there exist more than 1000 spoken languages in India. In this information
era, it is important to ensure that a spoken language gets due representation in digital space. In
this regard, enabling the cyber physical systems to understand and interact with people using the
spoken Indian languages is very important. This avoids the people to opt for second language
such as English to interact with the cyber physical systems. This will further contribute to the
success of the prestigious digital India Programme of Government of India as one of the
limitations faced in this arena is the need for interacting with these systems in English. This
requires building systems that can analyze the spoken Indian language. An important aspect of a
spoken language is its dialects. Dialects of a given language are differences in speaking style of
first language or native language (L1) because of geographical and ethnic differences. An
important objective of this project work is the development of dialect identification system that
involves identifying the dialect of a speech utterance after identifying its language. Dialect of a
speech utterance acts as a virtual geo-tag for the utterance that helps in predicting the
geographical location to which a speaker belongs.

Important Instructions:
1. Interested candidate possessing the requisite qualification and experience should apply in the

advertisement ( 19/12/2023 ). In addition, duly filled and signed scan copy of application

5. The shortlisted candidates will be informed by e-mail (apart from NIT Goa website

8. The appointment is for a time bound project and the candidate is required to work dedicatedly
