Setting Goals
Now select the two goals that mean the most to you and explore strategies to achieve them.

Goal 1: Get into Georgetown University

List the goal you are focussing on: Get admission into Georgetown University
My goal is SMART because:
S- I have a specific university I want to go to
M-I can measure the goal by either getting into the university or being unable to get into it
A- If I work hard for an excellent ATAR, a good scholarship and extracurricular activities, I can attain
my goal
R- The goal is relevant to my other long-term goals, such as pursuing my master’s degree and
getting a good job. Afterward, these goals will help me to achieve my financial goals later on in life.
T- I am still in high school. I have a sufficient amount of time to work hard and study at my dream
university

My goal is important to me because…

 How will achieving this goal affect your life?
- If I achieve this goal, it will help me to pursue a master’s degree after my bachelor’s and
after that, will help me to get a well-paid job or start my own business
 How will this goal help me achieve success?
- I will achieve success when I finally reach my financial goals later on in life. Through
getting a good education at a reputable university, I will be able to earn enough to meet
my financial goals and in turn, my other goals as well.

What are the strategies/ steps I need to take to accomplish this goal?
- Firstly, I have to work hard and get an ATAR of 90.00 or above. In order for that to
happen, I have to build an effective study routine, follow it regularly, and always be on
track in terms of my academics. I also need to take care of my mental and physical
health so that I am able to follow these steps for my desired ATAR. University
applications are also very important to look into. Doing some research on them will also
benefit me at the time when I will be preparing my applications
What do I need to do? When do I need to do it by?
- I have to make a study routine right away and follow it. I need to make sure it will be
effective. In addition, I have to involve myself regularly with volunteering, dance, and
German which will serve as my main out-of-school activities. I need to have a substantial
amount of record in terms of all the three activities mentioned by July 2024. My study
routine needs to be prepared now.
Which of these steps can you take/ enact now? How will you enact these?
- I can build a study routine for myself and start practicing it now. For volunteering, I can
contact the Red Cross to become involved with them. I would have to join NT Dance
Company to carry on with my passion for dancing. Lastly, I need to make the most out of
online resources to learn German and be fluent in it.
Are there any challenges you need to overcome that may prevent you from being successful?
- There might be work pressure, procrastination, or any kind of mental exhaustion that
may take place during the process. However, I believe through a healthy mental state
and family support, I can overcome these.

Identify the capabilities that you think will help you achieve this goal and explain how they could
help you.
 Literacy – This capability will help me in terms of academics such as subjects like English and
Science. It will also help me with university applications. Overall, possessing a good literacy
level will help me in various things.
 Numeracy – As I want to pursue a bachelor’s degree related to mathematics, the numeracy
capability will certainly help me to achieve my goals in math subjects, specifically in math
methods.
 information and communication technology capability
 critical and creative thinking
 personal and social capability- Since I have some out-of-school activities I want to be involved
with, being able to socialize and communicate with people will be essential. Whether in
volunteering or speaking section of German, this capability will help me to serve the
community, as well as, benefit myself.
 ethical understanding
 intercultural understanding

Discuss your goal with a relevant person by asking them the questions below. Record their
feedback/advice.
Name of person giving feedback: My uncle Their job/role: A lecturer at CDU

 How effective are my goal strategies?

- He commented that they are almost effective but I need to consider doing some other
things to make my plans a quite effective one.

 Are there things I have not considered that may assist me in achieving my goal?
- I also need to start looking at university applications

 Are there any roadblocks that I haven’t considered that may hinder me achieving this goal?
