Rocket Nozzle Cooling System Modeling in AxSTREAM System Simulation
The document summarizes modeling of a liquid rocket engine nozzle cooling system. The model accounts for phase transitions and properties of supercritical hydrogen within the nozzle cooling jacket. The liquid hydrogen flows through the pump where it is compressed and then passes through the nozzle cooling jacket. As it heats up in the jacket, it changes phase before passing through the turbine to drive the pump. The results obtained were the wall temperature distribution and heat transfer coefficients to allow further analysis of thermal and structural properties of the wall materials.

Rocket Nozzle Cooling System Modeling
Nozzle Cooling System Analysis
A liquid rocket engine with an expander cycle was Case Study Summary modeled. The liquid hydrogen flows through the fuel pump where it is compressed.
Goal:
Create an accurate model of a liquid rocket
engine’s nozzle cooling system, accounting for the phase transitions and supercritical hydrogen parameters within the nozzle’s cooling jacket.
Requirements:
Estimate the cooling jacket outlet's
boundary conditions for subsequent turbine design. After being compressed, the hydrogen passes through the nozzle cooling jacket where it heats up and changes Parameters: phase before passing through the turbine which drives the liquid hydrogen pump.
