Team overview:
Our Projects & Energy Transition team in Jakarta has established itself as
one of the pre-eminent projects practices in Indonesia. We act for both
private and public sector clients on some of the region's most iconic projects
in the energy and resources, transportation and social infrastructure sectors
in Indonesia and other countries across South-East Asia.

Our practice is multi-disciplinary and covers the full range of transactional


advice involved in projects and energy related matters, from project
development advice (on regulatory, tendering, construction and corporate
aspects) to project financing (both offshore and onshore) as well as
corporate transactions involving infrastructure and energy-related assets
and businesses.

We also advise key multilateral organisations (such as the World Bank, IFC
and ADB) and the Government of Indonesia on the structuring and strategy
for new approaches to infrastructure development and financing.

Clients turn to us to advise on the largest and most complex projects in the
market, from 'first-of-a-kind' renewable power projects to the most significant
oil and gas transactions in Indonesia and the wider region. Over the past
year, we have advised on most of the active projects and transactions in the
Indonesian market that have a connection with the energy transition from the
first green hydrogen to power project in the country to large scale floating
solar plants and cross-border transmission infrastructure.
Our Jakarta team is an integral part of Ashurst's Projects & Energy
Transition Practice Group and operates on a global basis with teams based
in London, Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, Madrid, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong,
Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, New York, Los Angeles and across Australia.

Job overview: We are currently looking for a senior level associate to join our growing
Projects & Energy Transition team in Jakarta, with experience primarily in
energy as well as infrastructure and mining.

The role involves a mixture of development and finance work and exposure
over a wide range of sectors, projects and clients.

Main responsibilities:
 you will support the team on projects and transactions we advise on;
 you will be undertaking legal research on a wide range of matters
as well as help draft and review legal memoranda, agreements and
other documents;
 you will take day to day responsibility for matters, with suitable direct
client contact and actively progress complex matters with partner
support;
 you will communicate with colleagues within the office and Ashurst's
international network as well as clients in order to understand their
needs and how best to meet them;
 you will also have the ability to assist clients in arriving at practical
and cost effective solutions;
 you will be able to mentor and assist junior associates and trainees
to promote their learning and development;
 you will understand the way our business, competitors and clients
are developing and work with the business development team to
use this information to develop business opportunities;
 you will build and maintain a network of business contacts working
intelligently with partners, other lawyers and the business
development team to exploit opportunities;
 you will have excellent attention to detail and demonstrate
accountability when identifying inconsistencies that indicate
problems with quality of work or a misunderstanding of clients'
needs;
 you will support selected pro bono activities of the office; and
 you will continue to contribute to the firm's vision to be an
exceptional place to work, by helping build team morale and
motivate team members contributing to the creation of a positive
work environment and assist with training and development.

Essential skills  projects experience with one or more leading law firms in Indonesia
and experience: with exposure to projects with a focus on any of the following sectors:
power and renewable energy, oil and gas, mining and infrastructure;
 post qualification experience of more than 5 years;
 excellent proficiency in English and Bahasa Indonesia. Proficiency
in any other language is a plus;
 qualified in Indonesia. Qualification in any other jurisdiction is a plus;
 a commitment to help develop this growing practice group and
supporting our clients in the structuring, financing and development
of major projects, based on previous experience;
 strong technical skills in relation to key regulatory framework and
legal principles applicable to large scale projects, project
agreements, project finance, legal drafting, coupled with an ability to
address legal advice within a commercial context;
 client facing experience and the ability to understand and respond
effectively to clients as well as to build and maintain client
relationships;
 a commercial approach and an ability to provide focused pragmatic
and commercial advice;
 a collaborative attitude to working within large teams across our
global network and with colleagues at all levels;
 respect for others and integrity.

Recent work: Examples of our recent mandates involve advising:


 the sponsors in relation to the development of a USD 2.5 billion
HPAL nickel and cobalt processing plant for the EV battery supply
chain;
 the Indonesian Government, World Bank and IFC on a strategy to
attract private investment and partnerships in the ownership and
operation of SOE infrastructure assets (including power, ports,
airports and roads);
 lenders on two of the first floating solar projects to be financed and
developed in Indonesia (Saguling & Singkarak);
 international sponsors on potential renewable power export projects
to Singapore as well as a large scale cross-border power
transmission project;
 the lenders on the first project financing of a 20MW hyperscale data
centre in Indonesia;
 sponsors of 2 of the first privately developed waste-to-energy
projects in Indonesia as well as Asian Development Bank and the
Government Contracting Agency on a third one;
 an EPC contractor on the development of a USD 3 billion copper
smelter in East Java; and
 Pertamina and Pertamina Patra Niaga on the USD 2.2 billion
Tanjung Enim DME coal-gasification project, one of Indonesian
government's national strategic projects (PSN);
 sponsors on the proposed extension to the Jakarta MRT.

Partner Profiles

Frédéric Draps is a foreign legal consultant with Ashurst OSP (and partner
of Ashurst) specialising in project development and financing.

Frédéric has advised on large scale projects in Europe, the Middle East,
Africa and has been focusing on South-East Asian markets since relocating
to the region in 2012. He advises sponsors, lenders, government
stakeholders and contractors on a wide range of projects in the power and
renewable energy, oil and gas, mining and infrastructure sectors. Frédéric
also has extensive experience advising on corporate transactions and
disputes relating to these sectors.

Frédéric is fluent in English, French, Dutch, Danish and Bahasa Indonesia


and is recognized as a "Leading practitioner (Projects & Energy – Foreign
Legal Consultants)" by Chambers Asia Pacific 2018 – 2023 and a "Next
Generation Partner" in the area of Projects and Energy by Legal 500 2019
– 2023.
