Convex Lens

This experiment aimed to find the focal length of a convex lens using two graphical methods. Observations were made by varying the position of a lens between two needles and measuring the object and image distances. Graphs were plotted of 1/u vs 1/v and u vs v, from which the focal length was determined to be 20 cm both times. Sources of error included parallax and non-vertical uprights, while precautions involved removing parallax and ensuring tight screws and vertical needles.

Sources of errors:
1. Error may be due to parallax.
2. Errors may occur due to carelessness of experimenter.
3. The uprights on the optical bench may not be vertical.

Precautions:
1. Parallax should be removed from tip to tip.
2. The screws of the holder and uprights should be tight .
3. The uprights must hold needles exactly vertical.
