Doc Number ISECC-MOS-0513 Method Statement Rev A01| Sheet 14 of 21 | | Client: ZAID AL HUSSAIN & BROTHERS GROUP | Project: RM-25 KING ABDULLAH INTERNATIONAL GARDEN | Contract No: 12104580 Location: Riyadh, K.S. A | 414 Grind the above area to remove the topcoat and surface layer of the pipes until the pipes glass fibers are exposed. Clean this area by dry clean cloth or by blowing or paintbrush and ensure that it is fully dry. Use rotary disc: grinder/sander to grind the area. This procedure shall remove the shiny surface of the pipe. Grinding should not be done more than 2 hours in advance of lamination. After 2 hours, if lamination has not begun, touch up grinding procedure shall be repeated. If it was grinded already, then no need to grind again, rather it should be clear with dry rag and by touch up grinding. Wipe the ground areas with clean solvent/by blowing/cloth to remove the collected dust and any surface moisture. If solvent is used, it must be allowed to evaporate completely. If the prepared surface is contaminated prior to the start of work, it should be cleaned first with a clean dry rag and by touch up grinding. Application of Cab-o-Sil Putty/Bonding Paste Fill the gap if any between the two pipes with cab-o-sil putty or bonding paste. Atter applied putty/paste has cured (10-15 Min), touch up grinding shall be performed prior to the application of laminate layers. Field Joint Kits Do not use kits that have been previously opened or has been damaged. Do not use any glass reinforcement that are wet or may have been previously exposed to moisture. Each supplied joint kit contains the required number of plies of chopped mat and Multi Axial fabric according to the manufacturer specification. Each layer is consisted of one or more sections to make up the complete layers around the pipe circumference. These sections are pre-cut to a specific length that can be handled easily. Re-check the applicable layers configuration from the process sheets provided The total numbers of plies are divided into the layers with the same number of plies and that each layer begins and ends with chopped mat plies. A Application of the layers Before commencing the lamination procedure, polyethylene sheet or wood shall be placed beneath the joint so that the ground shall not be contaminated from the chemicals (resin, catalyst, etc.) Thoroughly clean the pipe ends that are to be jointed Prepare enough resin for approximately 20-30 minutes gel time by adding proper amount of catalyst in the one-gallon half cut plastic pot. Mix the resin along with the catalyst in percentage of 1-3%. For e.g. If we take resin 100 gms then the catalyst volume should range between 1-3 ml Mix the catalyzed resin through mixing tongue to make it homogenous. Mix by stirring continuously for at least 1 minute. The Pipe surface to be laminated shall be “clean, not contaminated” and spread a thin layer of mixed resin on the pipe surface over an area large enough to include the largest piece of chopped mat. Lay a piece of chopped mat on the applied layer of resin Dip the paint wooly roller into the resin (not very deeply) and apply it on the layer mat smoothly all over the surface to wet out well. Now lay out a piece of multi axial over the wet mat and apply the paint roller over to it complete wet out. (It is to be noted that mat plies are always longer than glass fabric so short of length in glass fabric shall be distributed equally over the mat). Continue building up by mat and glass fabric plies as per the recipe provided by the manufacturer. Too many plies may not allow proper heat dissipation when the resin is under curing process and could cause blistering in small dimension laminates. Use the steel grooved roller slightly pressed to remove out the air bubbles. The angle of groove roller shall be changed time to time in order to remove the air bubbles in all directions. Keeping in consideration that very limited time has left for the resin to start getting gel, make sure all air bubbles have been taken out prior to start of the plies to become hard. Stop rolling as soon as the resin starts to gel. Continue this procedure until all the sections of the first layer have beerrapisie Make sure that each section overlaps with the other by minimum fitty eae y Doc Number ISECC-MOS-0513 | Method Statement Rev AO01| Sheet 16 of 21 Client: ZAID AL HUSSAIN & BROTHERS GROUP Ce AG AED U EHR anon ay Contract No: 12104580 Location: Riyadh, KS. A Allow this lay-up round to cure and cool (until it is comfortable to touch with the bare hands) prior fo application of another round of plies. After proper curing on the previous round, remove the shiny surface of the lay-up by scuff grinding as needed. Always remove dust and restart lamination on a clean surface. Complete the supplied number of plies application with the same procedure. As per standard procedure of Amiantit Fiberglass industries, a full rich resin coating shall be applied on the joint by using a paint roller. Final resin coating will be applied only after completion of all required joint inspections, which includes thickness and hardness of lamination. Apply the layers in the sequence as supplied in the packet of each kit. Lamination kits will be supplied in different widths creating a natural slope on both edges of the joint after all the required number of plies have been applied on the pipe. The above procedure shall be same for both internal and external laminations. Determination of Hardness Using Barcol Impressor This test method covers the determination of hardness of the field joint using Barcol Impresser. $.1.1 5.1.2 5.1.3 Test Specimen The test specimen can be a pipe, tank, end cap or a repair section free from mechanical damage. The specimen dimensions shall be large enough to ensure a minimum Smm in any direction from the impresser point to the edge of the specimen. Test Procedure After proper curing of the laminate proceed for barcol hardness. QC shall take at different locations ensuring the hardness as per the manufacturer recommendations are achieved. Installation of insulation and Jacket Pipe After successful lamination and curing of the carrier pipe as per above explained procedure contractor shall proceed with the installation of the PU Foam. The PU foam shall be wrapped around the field joint acting as a intermediated between the GRP cartier and Jacket pipe. The PU foam in the liquid form shall be allowed to harden and segments of it shall be used to wrap around the joint at site. At the interface of the hardened segments of the PU foam same liquid can be allowed to join and gel accordingly. The PU foam can be either installed in segment as explained above or it can be also injected on the area to achieve the profile and then leave it to cure. Contractor shall follow best practice at site for this activity. cee After proper hardening of PU foam and curing, contractor can then ts installation of the jacket pipes. ? Usage of Materials The promoted resin is used by mixing it with catalyst with an appropriate ratio. This ratio varies as per weathering condition, the hotter the weather less the amount of catalyst to be added. On extreme hot weather condition, less than 1% catalyst mixed with resin to achieve faster curing time. Minimum amount of 1% (hot weather) it may even be less — catalyst required than 1% sometimes Maximum amount of 3% (cold weather) it may be even more o_— catalyst required than 3% sometimes Note: Above is based on the manufacture recommendation.
