Installing ViBE onto a USB Flash Drive

A USB Flash Drive can be used as a ViBE Enabled CPE, utilizing a PC or laptop as a network router.
The below information will walk you through the installation of ViBE onto the USB Flash Drive, the
accessing of the ViBE USB Flash CPE interface, and the licensing for use.

You will need the following available to you:

- An empty USB Flash Drive (1GB or bigger)

- A PC that can be used as a dedicated router, with at least 1x USB Port & 1x Network Port
- An Ethernet network cable
- A Network Switch (Optional but recommended)

Step One
Navigate in a web browser to address below, register (if you haven’t already), and then once logged in click
the ViBE Setup button and then click the link Initial Setup for ViBE USB Flash CPE.

Download the files from this article:

- ViBE USB Flash CPE Image File
- Software ZIP File

Save these to your PC and extract them, you will need them to hand in the next few steps.

Step Two
Install WinImage (extracted from the software.zip file) to your PC. You will now use this application to
flash the USB Flash Drive for use with ViBE.

- Connect the USB flash drive to the PC.

- Open WinImage, making sure to Run as Administrator.
- Select Restore Hard Disk Image on Physical Drive.
- Select the USB Flash Drive.
- Select the file vibe_usb_flash_cpe.image previously extracted.
- Load the image file onto the USB Flash Drive.

Step Three
Next you will need to insert the USB Flash Drive into the PC or laptop you wish to dedicate as a ViBE
Enabled router, making sure that your PC boots off of the USB Flash Drive as per settings in the
CMOS/BIOS. Ways to gain access to this differ all depending on make and manufacturer of the device.

- Boot your PC from the newly flashed USB Flash Drive.

- Wait until the message ViBE system is up and running appears on the screen.

Accessing ViBE on the ViBE USB Flash CPE

The device is now ready to access for configuration. To do this you will need to either plug your non-
ViBE Enabled PC or laptop directly into the network port of the ViBE Enabled PC or laptop, or connect
both to a Network Switch.

Using a web browser on the connecting PC or laptop, you can now navigate to the IP address 192.168.1.1
using the credentials:

Username: admin
Password: password

Should you need to change the IP Address from the default one before accessing via a web
browser as above, you will need to do this using the Command Line Interface on the ViBE
Enabled PC or laptop.

On that device, press the Enter/Return key and login to the router with the credentials:

Username: root
Password: password

Once logged in, use the command ifconfig to establish the name of the main Ethernet interface (usually
eth0), and then issue the following command to change the default IP Address:

ifconfig <INTERFACE> <IPADDRESS> netmask <SUBNETMASK>

e.g. ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0

Licensing ViBE on the ViBE USB Flash CPE

Once you have connected to the ViBE USB Flash CPE, you will see a page similar (not exact) to the
one shown below:

If you click on the Vibe tab on the right-hand side, you will see under Vibe Tactical View the following:

At the moment, ViBE is not running on the ViBE USB Flash CPE. This is because no ViBE licence exists
on the device. ViBE Support will need to generate a licence key for the device. To do this, the following
information is required:

- The MAC Address of the CPE, found on the Info page of the ViBE GUI.
- The licence request key which you will find at Vibe—License similar to the following:

The long character string is the ViBE Licence request key.

To apply for a licence for your device you must raise a Licence Request support ticket on our support portal.

- Go to http://portal.vibesupport.com and login with your registered details.

- Select Submit a Ticket and then select Licence Requests or Faults and click Next.
- Fill out all the required fields listed, including the License Request Key and the Serial Number.
- Once the form has been filled out, click the Submit button at the bottom.

The ViBE Support team will then, upon receiving your Licence Request Ticket, process your licence request
key and send you back a ViBE Licence to apply to your ViBE USB Flash CPE.

You must then copy the licence key into the space provided on the same page the licence request key is
shown:

Once you have entered the license key, you must click on ‘Save Changes’ and then ‘Apply Changes’.

Once the licence has been loaded, ViBE will be running.
