What struck me about the language I
observed among teenagers was how
often they used these words and did
not use complete sentences. I expected
going in for them to at least say
complete sentences. My expectations
of these teens did not live up to the
result. I wanted teens to use more
English vocabulary words. Teenagers
are trying to create their own identity
among their peers. Many pop cultures
influence teens through music, movies,
social media, and trends. By making
their slang language, teenagers can
bond with their friends. It can also be
another rebellion against parents,
teachers, and other authority figures.
Using urban language often allows
them to express themselves and
communicate with peers.

The connection I can make between the words I used in adolescent linguistics
practices and today's adolescents is that many words have the same meanings. In
comparison, the slang words in the 90s are complete, and the words today are
abbreviated.
Yes, I did engage in similar language when I was that age, and to this day, I still use
some of the words. Yes, I did notice similarities between the development of the
phrase teens use today.
For example:
aiight
Chill
Da Bomb
Fire
all that and a bag of chips
Gucci
what's the 411- what's the tea?
And there are more.
The connection between this activity and the
reading about morphology/ semantics from a
theoretical perspective and identifying the words.
It is to understand the theoretical perspective of
how words are constructed by placing prefixes,
suffixes, and root words. There are many words
that I was able to decipher the meaning of and
understand of the words. The word basic is a
more relatable word that can be simple. The
principle of morphology/ semantics I observe is
the change of words to make new words.
Language is constantly changing in real life,
reflecting the evolving nature of human
communication. Several factors contribute to
language change, and these changes occur in real
time due to the intricate interplay of linguistic,
social, cultural, and technological influences.
