Installation of Solar Energy System
Installation of Solar Energy System
RIBINDEV PV
➢ A licensed B-Class Contractor is the minimal requirement for performing solar energy
system installation services. Eligible contractors can do the job, depending on the
installation's capabilities.
➢ Please confirm if the inverter is grid linked. To optimize solar PV generation, the
inverter capacity should be chosen in accordance with the output of the system. A
minimum efficiency of 97% is required for an inverter, and its design must adhere to
Indian and international standards.
➢ Details about the solar PV modules, including number of modules, wattage, voltage,
and current, as well as specs about the solar inverter, must be confirmed.
➢ MNRE approval is required for PV modules. This MNRE approval certificate needs to
be confirmed. An MNRE-approved lab certificate must be obtained if the PV module
is not certified by the MNRE.
➢ Make sure that in a grid-tied system, anti-islanding protection is maintained in the
event of a grid failure and that there is no back feeding to the grid. For the safety of
the user and other equipment, the inverter should automatically turn off in the event
of a power outage or an SPV issue. A certificate from the producer needs to be
acquired.
➢ If the customer wishes to use SPV power in the event of a grid outage, he must
construct an automatic switching system to separate the grid supply from the SPV
system and use the SPV supply securely in conjunction with the battery system.
➢ For solar PV systems, the appropriateness of the cable size must be confirmed and
guaranteed. The cable needs to have UV protection. The DC wire must be run through
the building's exterior wall if the inverter is placed on the lower level.
➢ An energy meter shall be provided for recording the solar energy generated.
➢ If grid-tied, it must be made sure that a bi-directional meter, also known as a net
meter, is available at the point of connection in order to track energy import and
export.
➢ Battery and inverter shall be segregated properly with fire proof partition or
minimum 75 cm clearance shall be ensured between them. Easy and safe accessibility
to panel for cleaning shall be provided.
➢ Reverse power relays must be included in proposed installations with DG sets if they
are to operate in tandem with solar systems to prevent back feeding to the DG sets.
Reverse power relay will trip the solar inverter in the event of back feeding.
➢ In order to isolate the system when the distribution system needs maintenance, a
lockable isolator should also be installed at the point of interconnection with the grid-
connected SPV system. This should be accessible to utility technicians.
➢ According to IS 3043/2018 and section 7.4.2 of IEC 62548/2016, PV module frames,
array structures, equipment and enclosures, AC conductors, and lightning conductors
must all be earthed. Connecting the AC and DC side earthing is required.
➢ Every PV module's frame must be linked to a single, continuous earthing conductor.
The PV array's maximum short circuit current must be 1.56 times the earthing
conductor's rated capacity.
➢ The minimum size of earthing conductor for PV equipment shall be 6 mm2 if copper,
10 mm' if, aluminium or 70 mm2 if hot-dipped galvanized iron. Resistance between
any point of the PV system and earth should not be greater than 5Ω. All the earthing
should be provided with two parallel paths with separate earth electrodes.
➢ Two fuses should be included with every string; one should be attached to the
positive terminal and the other to the negative terminal.
➢ To prevent circulating current, each PV string connected in parallel must have an open
circuit voltage that matches by no more than 5%. (See IEC 62548/2016, section 5.1.6).
➢ According to IEC 62548/2016 section 7.3.7, the cable size for the PV string, PV sub-
array, and PV array main cable shall be chosen.
➢ A specialized lightning protection system must be installed for big PV systems in
accordance with IEC 62305 and IEC 62548/2016, section 7.4.2. If a building's current
lightning protection sufficiently shields the installation area, it can be considered
suitable for this purpose.
➢ An IP 65 or higher ingress protection certification is required for all PV equipment
placed outside. It is advised that every outdoor inverter be equipped with an extra
shading system to block out direct sunlight.
➢ All The PV Equipment shall be labelled as per IEC 62446-2009-05.
• All circuits, protective devices, switches and terminals shall be suitably labelled.
• Every DC junction box needs to have a label on it to show which portions are
active and fed from a photovoltaic array.
• Main AC isolating switch shall be clearly labelled with dual supply warning and
a single line wiring diagram shall be displayed.
• Inverter protection settings, installer details and emergency shutdown
procedures shall be displayed on site.
➢ A PV system's DC current injection into the grid cannot exceed 1% of the inverter's
rated output current.
➢ Solar inverters must have a THD(I) rating of no more than 3% of the power fed into
the grid.
➢ For module mounting structures, aluminium or galvanized iron (GI) must be utilized.
➢ AC side of inverter shall also be provided with a SPD of adequate rating. SPDs shall be
selected based on the voltage impulse withstanding capacity of the equipment to be
protected.
➢
