Daintree Rainforest by Daniel Tan

Section 1: Space and Place

1.

Amazon

2. The absolute location of the Amazon Rainforest is 3.4653° S, 62.2159° W and the relative
location is —Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, and Suriname as
well as French Guiana
3. The features and landscapes of the rainforests are mountains, valleys, streams, wetlands,
rivers. The tropical rainforest is around 26-28 degrees Celsius and is very humid. Unique
features of the amazon rainforest the Amazon biome is 2 times the size of India. The amazon
rainforest holds 10% of all of earths known species. 17% of the Amazon Rainforest has been
lost during the past 50 years. This rainforest is home to the The Amazon River, the world's
largest river in terms of flow and the world's second-longest river after the Nile. There are
around 1,100 tributaries that feed into the river, 17 of which are longer than 1000 miles, and
two of which have a larger area than the Congo.
Section 2:

4.

The Ecuador Amazon Basin receives the highest precipitation in the months of March, April, May,
and June. This is related to the nation's precipitation as well. The Napo River and its tributaries,
which run into the Amazon River, receives rainfall from Andres. There is a decrease in monthly
rainfall throughout July through December. The rainforest's year-round average temperature is 25°C
(77°F), however during the dry period, daytime highs can reach 40°C (104°F). In the amazon
rainforest, there are 200 days with rain each year on average. Travelling by canoe on the high rivers
makes the Amazon Rainforest more accessible. The rainfall enables the creatures below the canopy
to flourish all year round.

5. This image shows us the original forest

cover to our current forest cover with a
dramatic decrease. Deforestation in the
Amazon has already had an effect on the
climate of the area, increasing low
cloudiness over deforested areas.
Increasing temperatures and changing
rain patterns in the Amazon due to global
climate change and greater deforestation
would have detrimental effects. A few of
the repercussions of climate change
include the weakening of freshwater systems, soil loss, increased erosion, reduced
agriculture production, increased insect infestation, and the spread of infectious diseases.

Section 3:

6. Indigenous peoples have long lived in tropical rainforests, developing civilisations and
cultures in tune with their surroundings. The Mayas, Incas, and Aztecs, among other great
civilisations, developed advanced societies in addition to making significant and everlasting
contributions to science. The indigenous people have a bond to the Amazon rain forest
because they have changed the habitat over time, changing the local flora and fauna to a
regional level. The Awá Brazil, Ayoreo Paraguay, Guarani Brazil, Kawahiva Brazil,
Uncontacted Frontier Peru, and Yanomami Brazil are a few examples of tribes in the amazon
rainforest.
7. The Amazon rainforest has been impacted by humans in the following ways: Mining, logging,
ranching, agriculture, and oil and gas extraction have put an unsustainable burden on the
Amazon's delicate rain forests. On a positive note, the destruction of the rainforest is being
slowed down as a result of increased awareness of the problems.
8. In the 1940s, highways known as penetration roads were constructed in the Bolivian,
Ecuadorian, Peruvian, and Colombian highlands. Significant oil deposits, forestry resources,
tropical hardwoods, river fish, and cocaine have all profited from penetration roads. Brazil
has been the nation that has sought the opening of the Amazon basin. They have been
establishing a new inland capital city named Brasilia, as well as a 1,770 km long road
connecting it to Belém (the commercial centre at the entrance of the Amazon River).
