Megayacht Royal Antifouling

Megayacht Royal Antifouling is a TBT-free, self-polishing antifouling paint suitable for large yachts operating globally for up to 24 months. It has a black, blue, or red color and contains 50% solids by volume. The paint can be applied by spray or roller in 75-150 micron dry film thicknesses. It requires an anticorrosive primer and has a drying time of 1-2 hours before launching depending on temperature.

MEGAYACHT ROYAL
ANTIFOULING

Product description
Megayacht Royal Antifouling is a TBT-free self-polishing antifouling based on a copolymer binder. It is
suitable for the special requirements of a large yacht. IMO Antifouling System Convention compliant
AFS/CONF/26.

Recommended use
As an antifouling on sailing and motor Megayachts operating in global service, with service periods up
to 24 months.

Film thickness and spreading rate

Minimum Maximum
Film thickness, dry (µm) 75 150
Film thickness, wet (µm) 150 300
Theoretical spreading rate (m²/l) 6,7 3,3

Physical properties
Colour Black, Blue, Red
Solids (vol %)* 50 ± 2
Flash point 30ºC ± 2
VOC 440 gms./ltr.UK-PG6/23(97). Appendix 3
*Measured according to ISO 3233:1998 (E)

Surface preparation
Coated surfaces
Prior to paint application, all surfaces should be clean, dry and free from contamination. Remove
surface contamination by high pressure fresh water cleaning. To be applied on a clean, dry approved
primer/undercoat or intact self-polishing antifouling. Remove surface contamination by high pressure
fresh water cleaning.

Other surfaces
The coating may be used on other substrates. Please contact your local Jotun office for more
information.

Condition during application

The temperature of the substrate should be minimum 3ºC above the dew point of the air,
temperature and relative humidity measured in the vicinity of the substrate. Good ventilation is
usually required in confined areas to ensure correct drying.

Application methods
Spray Use airless spray
Brush May be used but care must be taken to achieve the specified dry film thickness.
Roller May be used. However when using roller application care must be taken to apply
sufficient material in order to achieve the specified dry film thickness.

Application data
Thinner/Cleaner Jotun Thinner No. 7
Guiding data airless spray
Pressure at nozzle 15 MPa (150 kp/cm², 2100 psi.).
Nozzle tip 0,021 - 0.031" (0,53-0,78 mm)
Spray angle 65-80°
Filter Check to ensure that filters are clean.
Note Newbuildings: Based on the shipyard's and Jotun's paint specification.

Drying time
Drying times are generally related to air circulation, temperature, film thickness and number of coats,
and will be affected correspondingly. The figures given in the table are typical with:
* Good ventilation (Outdoor exposure or free circulation of air)
* Typical film thickness
* One coat on top of inert substrate

Substrate temperature 5°C 10°C 23°C 40°C

Dry to recoat, minimum

1. The interval indicates the time which normally occurs in a drydocking situation where the drying
time depends on the total film thickness of primer/antifouling applied. The drying time will
increase with increasing film thickness.
2. The surface should be dry and free from any contamination prior to application of the
subsequent coat.

The given data must be considered as guidelines only. The actual drying time/times before recoating
may be shorter or longer, depending on film thickness, ventilation, humidity, underlying paint system,
requirement for early handling and mechanical strength etc. A complete system can be described on
a system sheet, where all parameters and special conditions could be included.

Recommended type of primer:

Anticorrosive primer system suitable for purpose with Megasealer or Megaguard as a sealer
coat/tie-coat.

Other systems may be specified, depending on area of use

Storage
The product must be stored in accordance with national regulations. Preferred storage conditions are
to keep the containers in a dry space provided with adequate ventilation. The containers should be
sealed tightly.

Handling
Handle with care. Stir well before use.
