Active and Passive Voice
Past Perfect Tense:
Active Voice:
 Positive:

 Subject + had + past participle of the main verb

Example: "She had completed the task before the deadline."


 Negative:

 Subject + had + not + past participle of the main verb (hadn't)

Example: "The project hadn't been finished by the time he left."


 Interrogative:

 Had + subject + past participle of the main verb?

Example: "Had you seen the movie before?"


Passive Voice:
 Positive:

 Subject + had been + past participle of the main verb

Example: "The book had been read by many students."


 Negative:

 Subject + had not been + past participle of the main verb

(hadn't been)
Example: "The report hadn't been submitted by the due date."
 Interrogative:

 Had + subject + been + past participle of the main verb?

Example: "Had the documents been checked thoroughly?"


Present Perfect Tense:
Active Voice:
 Positive:

 Subject + have/has + past participle of the main verb

Example: "I have visited that city before."


 Negative:

 Subject + have/has + not + past participle of the main verb

(haven't/hasn't)
Example: "They haven't finished the project yet."
 Interrogative:

 Have/Has + subject + past participle of the main verb?

Example: "Have you ever tried sushi?"


Passive Voice:
 Positive:

 Subject + have/has been + past participle of the main verb

Example: "The house has been decorated for the party."


 Negative:

 Subject + have/has not been + past participle of the main

verb (hasn't been/haven't been)


Example: "The issue hasn't been resolved yet."
 Interrogative:

 Have/Has + subject + been + past participle of the main verb?

Example: "Have the invitations been sent out?"

Rewrite the sentences in the opposite voice.


1. The flowers were watered by Sara.

2. A funny joke was told by the clown.

3. The team won the championship.

4. The letter has been mailed by the postman.

5. The computer program is being developed by the engineers.
