Task 1 (9.5) Art Gallery

The maps show how an art gallery in Australia has been refurbished between 1950 and present day. While some rooms like the entrance, sculpture room, bookshop, and European art rooms remained unchanged, other areas like the courtyard have been divided into smaller rooms for a children's art school, Aboriginal art, and Australian art. The cafe has also been downsized to make way for a new toilet facility.

The given maps illustrate how an art gallery in Australia has been refurbished between 1950 and now.

Overall, while several rooms show no significant changes after the period, some new establishments
have been constructed catering for different purposes.

It can be seen that the entrance is in the south of the building, which has remained unchanged since
1950. Behind the entrance was the sculpture room, which was the largest in the gallery. On the
bottom left-hand side of the map, the temporary exhibition and the bookshop are still situated in
their previous positions, which are in the south west of the map. Similarly, the spaces dedicated for
Early European Art and Middle European Art, which were on the right-hand side of the map, have
witnessed no change in terms of their location.

Looking at the maps in more detail, after some notable renovations, the courtyard, which was in the
north of the map, has been split into three smaller rooms to make space for the children art school,
the Australia Aboriginal Art and Australia Art room from left to right. The Australia Art area used to be
situated in the south-west of the map but now it has been replaced by Asian Art. The café, which was
near the children art school, has been shrunk in size to make room for a new toilet.
