2. (a) Given that a function g(x) = x2 − 6, find:

(b) Given that f (x) = 2x + 1, find:

3. (a) The function g is given by g(x) = ax2 − b, where a and b are real numbers. If
g(2) = −5 and g(−1) = 2, find the values of a and b.
(b) Find the range of each function for the given domain and state if the function is
one-to-one or not.
i. f (x) = x − 2, Domain = {x ∈ R : −2 ≤ x ≤ 4}.
ii. f (x) = x2 , Domain = {x ∈ R : −3 < x < 3}.

4. Find the domain and the range of the following functions.

(b) For each of the given functions f and g, find (f ◦ g)(x) and (g ◦ f )(x).
i. f (x) = 2x − 3 and g(x) = 3x + 2
ii. f (x) = x2 − x and g(x) = x + 4
iii. f (x) = x2 and g(x) = x − 3

6. The functions given below are either bijective or not. If the given function is bijective,
find its inverse. If it is not bijective, limit the domain by finding the largest possible
subset so that the function is bijective and then find its inverse. In each case, state the
domain and range of the function and its inverse.

9. The diagrams below are graphs of real functions. Which of these graphs represent
functions that are odd, even or neither? Which of these graphs represents functions that
are one-to-one? Justify your answer.
