MODULE DESCRIPTION
Aim The aim of this module is to bring the students who have studied the
“Information Technology for Business” module up to the next level
of understanding with respect to Management Information Systems.
This module covers the basics of Business Information Systems which
helps the students to understand the working and applications of
different types of information systems in modern business
organizations.
Learning Outcomes At the end of the module, the student will be able to:
LO1: Describe different types of information systems and their
applicability in business.
LO2: Discuss key aspects of the systems development process,
from project planning through to analysis, design and
implementation including key activities and key deliverables.
LO3: Illustrate key activities associated with the analysis of
business systems, including the analysis of business problem,
determining information needs, and selecting an IS-based
strategy/solution to address the business need.
LO4: Examine various strategies, tools, and modelling concepts and
techniques related to traditional, object-oriented and other
approaches to the analysis and design of a business
information system.
LO5: Distinguish the difference between various tools such as MS
Project and MS Visio to support the planning, analysis, and
design process of an IS project.
Assessment Criteria Assessment Description:
The continuous assessments will be based on a group assignment
and formal in class examinations. The final assessment is a
comprehensive examination based on all material covered in
lectures and the knowledge and skills gathered in other activities
during the semester.
The contribution of marks for the assessment components are as
follows:
