Automatic Clothes Protector From Rain

The document proposes an automatic clothes protector system to protect clothes from rain. The system uses rain drop sensors connected to an Arduino board to detect rain. When rain is detected, a servo motor moves the clothesline under covered area. When rain stops, the clothesline is moved back. The system aims to help individuals protect clothes more effectively without manual intervention. It is a proof of concept at a TRL of 4 that has the potential for commercialization but has not yet received funding or recognition. The proposed solution is automatic, energy efficient, and more advanced than traditional clotheslines. It has high scalability and market potential given the common problem it addresses. It also provides environmental benefits by reducing water and energy usage

PROTECTION OF CLOTHES FROM RAIN

Type of Project:

1. Idea / Proof of Concept (PoC):

The phenomenon of interest is the protection of clothes from rain , which involves
understanding the challenges individuals face in safeguarding their clothes from
unpredictable weather conditions, the need for continuous monitoring of weather
forecasts and the use of protective measures, such as indoor drying or covering the
clothesline.
By gaining a better understanding of this phenomenon, we aim to develop a solution i.e.,
Automatic Clothes Protector that will help individuals protect their clothes more
effectively and efficiently, and reduce the whole repetitive laundry process.
Automatic Clothes Protector which consists of rain drop sensors will detect the rain,
send the signal to Arduino board and thus, the servo motor will automatically move the
clothesline under the covered area. When it stops raining, the rain drop sensor detects
the change in resistance and sends the signal to the arduino board which will then move
the clothesline back to its original position.

9. Define the problem and its relevance to today's market / society /
industry need

The problem at hand is the need for a solution to protect drying clothes on terrace from
rain. In today’s market, society and industry, this problem is relevant due to several
factors. Firstly, unexpected rain shoes ofter ruin the drying process of clothes which
results in extra efforts of redoing the laundry. So, this can be categorised as a daily - life
problem in almost every household. Secondly, the fast paced lifestyle of working
individuals and busy housewives demand efficient and time saving solutions. By
addressing this problem, we can provide a solution enhancing people’s daily routines
and offering peace of mind.

10. Describe the Solution / Proposed / Developed

The solution is to installing cameras at the entry point that use license plate
recognition technology to capture the number plate of each vehicle as it arrives. The
captured information can then be processed by a system that retrieves the relevant
details of the driver and vehicle from a database and displays them on a screen for
confirmation. This will eliminate the need for drivers to manually enter their
information and reduce the time it takes to complete the check-in process.

11. Explain the uniqueness and distinctive features of the (product /

process / service) solution

● One of the unique features our product possesses is that it is automatic

and does not require any manual intervention.
● Secondly, it is energy efficient and runs on betteries and electricity.
● Thridly, No need to constantly monitor the weather as our product has a
feature where, as soon as the rains stops it brings back the clothesline to
the sun automatically.

12. How your proposed / developed (product / process / service)

solution is different from similar kind of product by the competitors if
any
● Space Saving: This System can be mounted to wall so it does not take so
much space
● Year round use: The system is independent of the weather conditions
● More technologically advanced: Use of Arduino and sensors gives is
comparably a modern technologically advanced solution
● Robust model: More firm than the delicate clothesline which can't be used
during strong winds.
13. Is there any IP or Patentable Component associated with the Solution?

No

14. Has the Solution Received any Innovation Grant/Seed fund Support?

No

Mention the total grant fund amount (Rs.) Received from various sources:
None

Mention the grant fund amount (Rs.) Received From Institute/Incubation Unit:
None

15. Are there any Recognitions (National/International) Obtained

by the Solution?

Scalability: Highlight the market potential aspects of the Solution/Innovation (Potential
Market Size, segmentation and Target users/customers etc.)
An Automatic Clothes Protector has great market potential due to its scalability. With
the increasing need for more efficient and effective ways to protect clothes from rain in
various settings, the potential market size for this innovation is extensive. The solution
can be segmented based on the target audience, such as elderly people, working people,
and people who live in regions with heavy rainfall, and, among others. The system can
cater to the needs of different users or customers by providing personalized services
based on their preferences. Overall, the scalability of an automated rain protection
system for clotheslines allows for significant market potential, making it an attractive
solution for businesses and individuals looking to protect their clothes from rain.

Economic Sustainability: Highlight commercialisation/business application aspects of

the solution (how it is going to economic profitable and viable)
The proposed solution holds a strong potential for commercialization, ensuring
economic profitability and viability. By addressing a common problem faced in many
households, the solution taps on a substantial market demand. One potential avenue for
commercialization is through sale of the complete system as a standalone product. The
system’s integration with modern technology makes it an appealing option for
customers. Furthermore, Partnerships can be established with property management
companies to incorporate this system into their new constructions. Careful pricing
strategies can also help in achieving economic profitability and viability of this product.
Overall, this product ensures a sustained economic success.

Environmental Sustainability: Highlight environmental friendliness aspects and

related benefit of the solution/innovation
The automated clothes protector process offers several environmental sustainability
benefits. Firstly, it reduces water wastage by protecting clothes on the line from getting
wet during rain, thereby reducing the need for re-washing and water usage. This
ultimately saves water and reduces the impact of laundry on the environment. Secondly,
it promotes the efficient use of electricity by using servo motors that only run when
needed, thus reducing energy consumption. This leads to a reduction in greenhouse gas
emissions and the carbon footprint associated with energy production. Lastly, the use of
