Student Name Department: Subject Name: Computer Networks First Semester 2022-2023 Level: 2 Lab Exam

This document contains the questions from a computer networks exam at the University of Sadat City Faculty of Computers and Artificial Intelligence. The exam asks students to complete subnetting tasks like designing a subnetting scheme to accommodate 2000 hosts, creating subnets of varying sizes from an IP address block, and analyzing subnet masks and host ranges for given network scenarios. The questions require calculating subnet masks, usable address ranges, and number of networks and hosts based on IP addresses and network requirements.

Question 1:
You have been assigned the IP address block 203.100.0.0/16. Design a subnetting
scheme that accommodates at least 2000 hosts in each subnet. Provide the subnet
mask and the range of usable IP addresses for the first three subnets.

Question 2:
Given the IP address 172.31.0.0/20, create subnets with varying sizes to accommodate
the following requirements: 500 hosts, 200 hosts, and 100 hosts. Determine the subnet
masks and the usable IP address range for each subnet.

Question 3:
A network administrator has the address range 192.168.12.0/24 to address the networks shown.

1) How many bits are in the network part of the address and how many are in the host part
of the address?
2) How many networks need to be addressed?
3) Using older subnetting methods without VLSM, all the subnets need to be the same size.
- How many bits would you need to borrow to have enough networks?
- How many bits would be left in the host part?
- How many hosts could you have on each network?
- Can you address the networks without using VLSM?

4) From now on you will use VLSM to address the networks

- How many hosts are in the largest network?
- How many host bits do you need to address these hosts?
- How many bits are available for borrowing?
- What will the subnet mask be when you borrow these bits?
