Chandrinalla Dam

The proposed Chandrinalla Irrigation project in Odisha would build an earth dam across the Chandrinalla River, a tributary of the Brahmani River, to irrigate 5000 hectares of land and provide drinking water. Hydrological studies show the dam would have a dependable yield of 4308 hectare meters after accounting for upstream and downstream usage. The reservoir would meet 87.5% of the total annual demand of 3112 hectare meters for irrigation and drinking water over 30 years of simulation.

GCA:6700 ha, CCA:5000ha

Rain gauge Stations & Rainfall data-Rajgangpur, Lathikata,Gurundia & Kuanramunda(1985-2017)

Hydrology:

The G&D observation data at Chandrinalla Dam Site has been recorded from Aug 2006.Specific Yield of
observed runoff is 95 ham/sqkm at 75% yield, which is too high for consideration.

Although the monsoon flow is inconsistent and the avg. non-monsoon flow contribution goes well with
the characteristics of Brahmani Basin.

R-R equation established for existing Rukura Irrigation Project(CA:171 Sq.km) has been adopted for
the monsoon period. The average non monsoon distribution ratio from the observed data at Chandrinalla
GD site is used for non monsoon flow. The final established flow series data from 1985-2017 is used.

The yield series developed of the project from 1985-2017 & 75 % dependable yield comes to 4308 Ham
after deducting 20 % of flow for Upstream & downstream utilization, Sp Yield -35.60 Ham/Sqkm

Design Flood:

Method –SUH - CWC guidelines for Flood estimation report for Mahanadi subzone 3d,

one day SPS - 509.44mm, Loss rate -1.5 mm/hr.

SPF - 1291 Cumecs, Dickens Constant-35

Demand Table:

Drinking water provision made for 50000 population(2071 consensus) in command area

Type of Demand Annual Demand

Irrigation 2928.83 ham
Drinking 183.6 ham
Total 3112.43 ham

Reservoir Simulation : Success rate is 87.5 % & Water utilization is 69.38 %
