4. In a school development meeting you are required to draw up a preliminary estimate of a


school building for 550 students in order to assess the amount of fund. The following
particulars are collected by you:- Carpet area required per student = 1.20sq-m with an area
of corridor, verandah, lavatories etc. be 20% and for wall 15% to that of plinth area of the
building.
Consider, plinth area rate = Rs. 1100 per sq-m
Cost of water supply = 5% of the building cost.
Cost of sanitation = 6% of the building cost.
Cost of electrification = 10% of the building cost.
Cost of approach road and boundary wall = 3% of the building cost.
Contingency and work-charged establishment shall be 5% and 2.5% of the total cost
respectively.
5. Details of a simply supported R.C.C. slab of the mix proportion 1:2:4 are as below :-
Size 5.09m x 6.05m and 12cm depth, Reinforcement 12mm dia rods. are provide in direction
of 5.09m at the rate of 0.15m centre to centre of the total number of rods 16 nos have
ckd at 450 at appropriate places and hooked at ends. Other rods are straight and hooked
at ends. To hold the cranked portions 4 nos 10 mm dia straight and hooked rods have
been used. 10 mm dia rods are placed in the direction of 6.05m at the rate of 0.20 m
centre to centre. Cover 0.015 m at the top & bottom and 2.5 cm on all sides. Assume
any other dimension not given. 2+6
a) Calculate quantities of material.
b) Make out appropriate columns and estimate the total weight of steel required in
reinforcement for the slab.
6. Estimate the quantity of earth work for a road between two station A to B with the following
data –
Width of road is 10 m at formation surface and side slope 2:1. Rate for earthwork in banking
and cutting may be take as Rs. 10 per m3 including a lead up to 150 m with a condition
that portion of earthwork available from cutting is to be utilized for banking within the same
lead of 150 m. The data of field book for the portion of road are as below –
