Abstract

Today most widely used systems are wireless because these systems are less in cost and more
efficient than wired systems.
In wireless systems we do not use wires so these systems are light in weight and free from line
losses i.e. losses due to current flowing in the wires.
Wires are easily affected by environmental conditions, so wired systems are not so good.
In wireless systems, the data transmitted through the Electromagnetic Waves and these waves
are not affected by the environmental conditions.
Also the environment is not affected by these waves. Hence this is an eco-friendly method.
Today motors are everywhere. In every industry motors are playing a great role.
In home appliances motors are playing a common role. So the use of this project will reduce a
number of wires which are being used daily.

1.1 Introduction

This project is all about the wireless operation of a Home automation.

In this project, we will control the home appliances.

Wireless facility is provided with the help of Bluetooth connectivity.

An android handset is required to control the operation.

As the name suggest “HOME AUTOMATION” is controlling the home appliances with
any mobile phone containing some medium of connectivity such as Bluetooth.

Various terms related to this project can be discussed as follows. Since we are concern with
the wireless application that is why we are using here a mobile phone to control the whole
process.

Proposed System

• There are a lot of ways to use ESP866 for communication. Some may use it to send /
receive data online or regularly upload data. For this tutorial I will just show you
how can we communicate to Arduino wirelessly using your phone (Android or
iPhone) . This will be done offline so no need to have internet connection.

• Our ESP8266 will serve as Access Point (AP Mode), meaning it will provide access
to Wi-Fi network to other devices (stations) and connects them further to a wired
network.

• The process it pretty simple. Use your phone to send any command to Arduino. With
the help of ESP8266, everything will work wirelessly.

• We will be considering a mini working model.

pg. 12
Chapter 5
Implementation plan

 Connect both ESP's VCC/3.3V/Power Pin and Enable Pin (red wires) to 10K
resistor then to Uno's +3.3V power pin.

 Connect ESP's Ground/GND Pin (Black Wire) to Uno's Ground/GND Pin.

 Connect ESP's TX (green wire) to Uno's Pin 3.

 Connect ESP's RX (blue wire) to 1K resistor then to Uno's Pin 2.

 Connect ESP's RX (blue wire) to 1K resistor then to Uno's GND Pin.

 The Arduino UNO WiFi has a resettable polyfuse that protects your computer's
USB ports from shorts and overcurrent. Although most computers provide their

own internal protection, the fuse provides an extra layer of protection. If more
than 500 mA is applied to the USB port, the fuse will automatically break the

connection until the short or overload is removed.

 The maximum length and width of the UNO WiFi PCB are 2.7 and 2.1 inches

respectively, with the USB connector and power jack extending beyond the
former dimension. Four screw holes allow the board to be attached surface or

case. Note that the distance between digital pins 7 and 8 is 160 mil (0.16"), not
an even multiple of the 100 mil spacing of the other pins.

Chapter 6.

Components.

6.1 Arduino UNO

The Arduino Uno is a microcontroller board based on the ESP8266-01.

It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs,
a 16 MHz quartz crystal, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header and a reset button.

The ATmega328 on the Uno comes pre-programmed with a boot loader that allows you to
upload new code to it without the use of an external hardware programmer.

pg. 14
6.2 Bluetooth Module

The HC-05 is a Bluetooth module that allows wireless communication between devices. It uses
Bluetooth 2.0 and EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) protocols and operates on the 2.4GHz frequency
band. The module has a range of up to 10 meters and can support up to seven simultaneous
connections.

The HC-05 module can be used for various applications such as wireless serial communication,
Bluetooth audio streaming, and remote control of electronic devices. It can be easily integrated
with microcontrollers such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other embedded systems.

The module has a simple UART interface and can be configured using AT commands. It can
operate in both master and slave modes and can support various Bluetooth profiles such as SPP
(Serial Port Profile), HFP (Hands-Free Profile), A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile),
and AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Overall, the HC-05 Bluetooth module is a cost-effective and versatile solution for wireless
communication and control in home automation and other applications.

pg. 15
6.3 USB ARDUINO:

The USB of an Arduino is a type-B USB connector that is used to connect the Arduino board to
a computer or other USB host.

This connection is used for programming the Arduino board and also for serial communication
between the board and the computer.

The USB connector is usually located on the side of the board and can be connected to the
computer using a USB cable.

The Arduino board appears as a virtual serial port on the computer and can be used to send and
receive data between the board and the computer.

pg. 16
6.4 Cables:

Jumper wires are small insulated wires with pins or connectors on each end used to create
temporary connections between components on a breadboard or other prototyping board.

They allow for easy experimentation and prototyping of electronic circuits without the need for
permanent soldering.

Jumper wires come in various lengths and colors, and can be either male-to-male, female-to-
female, or male-to-female, depending on the type of connection needed.

pg. 17
6.5 LED lights:

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. LED lights are semiconductor devices that emit light
when a current is passed through them.

They are more energy efficient and last longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.

LED lights are used for various purposes including home and commercial lighting, automotive
lighting, electronic displays, and more.

They come in a variety of colors and can be dimmable. LEDs are also used in combination with
microcontrollers and sensors in various DIY electronics projects.

pg. 18
6.6 Fan:

A CPU fan is a type of cooling system that is used to cool the Central Processing Unit (CPU) of
a computer.

It works by pulling the heat generated by the CPU away from it and then dispersing that heat
through a heat sink.

The fan blows air over the heat sink to dissipate the heat and keep the CPU from overheating.

This helps to ensure that the CPU runs smoothly and doesn't suffer any damage from excess heat.

CPU fans come in a variety of sizes and styles to fit different types of computer systems.

pg. 19
7. Expected Outcome

• We have successfully achieved a Home appliances controlled using wifi.

• Further modifications by introducing wifi module in the circuit in order to control the
current, thereby the strength of the magnetic field, thereby indirectly increasing or
decreasing the speed and direction of the working motor.
