profile 19 years of experience in Biology science. Expert at
parasitology and Freshwater fish of Iraq. Possess PhD. in
Parasitology at University of Sulaimani. My scientific degree
is Assistant Professor and I have 20 scientific papers, my

9. Keywords Symbiosis, Parasitism, Host, Vector, Protozoa, Helminthes

10. Course overview:

Parasitology is the branch of biology devoted to the study of parasites, it concerned with
morphology, biology, classification, physiology, life cycle, epidemiology, diagnosis,
transmission, prevention and control of parasites. In addition to these, it involves the
relationships between the parasites and their hosts, as well as the reactions toward each
other. In general there are three major groups of parasites including: protozoa, helminthes
and arthropods.

11. Course objective:

The aim of the course is to develop basic knowledge and skill to identify the parasites,
diagnose the diseases caused by them, prevent and control parasitic diseases.

12. Student's obligation

Student assessment is both formal and informal. From a formal standpoint, students are
examined for their competence in the subject as weekly quiz and course examination.
Informally, students spend roughly 45 hours with their lab section and 30 hours with theory
faculty throughout the course. Also, the understand strengths and weaknesses of each
student as s/he works through the material, asks questions, interacts with colleagues and
makes presentations to the class. This informal understanding of each student lends
perspective to the student's performance on exams and allows the instructor to adjust
classroom interaction so that all maximize their opportunity to complete the course to the
best of their abilities.
13. Forms of teaching
The theoretical part in this course is illustrated by data show (power point), white board
and Google classroom, as well as academic debate could do inside the classroom. The
practical part studied in the laboratory and generally illustrated on two different ways. The
first being introductory and given by lecturer using white board and data show, and the
other by demonstrator (assistance researcher) practically by using laboratory equipment.

14. Assessment scheme

The assessment of this course is self-study, midterm exam, reports, presentation and
quizzes.
• 20% midterm theory exam
• 20% midterm practical exam
• 10% student activity (lab. Report, quiz, attendance, … etc.).
• 20% final theory exam
• 30% final practical exam

15. Student learning outcome:

By the end of the year the students should know:
1- The general information about the parasites and their hosts.
2- The morphology, life cycle, pathogenicity and laboratory diagnosis of the parasites
especially those that cause diseases in human.
3- The epidemiology of parasites with special reference to those endemic in Iraq.
4- Factors that aid to transmission of parasites.
5- Prevention and control of the parasites

18. Practical Topics Lecturer's name:

Dr. Younis S. Abdullah

19. Examinations:
Theory:
The type of the final exam will be at least five questions and the duration at least two
hours. Types of question such as: Composition, Multiple choices, True or false, Short
explanations, and Diagram.

Move:
In this type of exam the questions usually starts with the Diagnose slides on the
microscope, usually with a few minutes to answer.
20. Extra notes:
As we said in above our topic (Pr. Parasitology) is based on the identification of human parasites so,
the student should know that the answers of practical histology questions need accuracy, so the
answer should be very specific and short.

21. Peer review

I certify that:
1. I read and verify all requirements of teaching quality assurance are respected in this
course book.
2. The scientific contents are new, convenient and well organized for this stage.
3. The order of chapters is well done.
4. References are new and available for students.

That’s why I signed on this course book and I take all responsibilities.
