E6 Lean and
Rich burn gas engine
control
The E6 System is a gas-engine control system that
controls speed/load, air/fuel ratio and spark ignition
of a four-stroke Spark Ignited Lean-Burn
reciprocating engine. It can be applied to single or
dual throttle engines in a wide range of power
outputs.

The control is easily tunable via Toolkit and


operates the engine in emissions compliance
through a wide range of engine conditions. Changes
in engine AFR operation due to gas quality, fuel
system drift, and other environmental conditions
(e.g. humidity, air or fuel temperature, etc.) during
normal operation of the engine are compensated in
the control by means of Power, MAP, exhaust
oxygen, or exhaust NOx closed-loop regulation.

The fuel metering subsystem can be used with a


Woodward TecJet used typically with a Venturi
carburetor. A second TecJet in parallel is allowed or

TecJet for a second fuel supply can be added. The
controller can also be configured to control a Fuel
Trim Valve for use with high or low pressure Air-Plug
type or Venturi type carburetors.

An on-board E6 Ignition module is accessed through


internal CAN monitoring and control parameters.
The E6 Ignition module will function as a slave to
the E6, receiving timing and duration references
over the Internal CAN network. The E6 control
receives diagnostic information from the E6 Ignition
for integrated operation and display.

An on-board E6 Knock module is accessed through


internal CAN monitoring and control parameters.
The E6 Knock module will function as a slave to the
E6, receiving window information over the Internal
CAN network. The E6 control receives FFT knock
intensity and diagnostic information from the E6
Knock for integrated knock mitigation and
monitoring of Thermocouple channels.

E6 AUX KNOCK and


Thermoucouples
The LECM Aux Platform Knock applications and
hardware are intended to be part of an industrial
engine control system for original equipment
manufacturers, equipment packagers, and end-
users with the need for acoustic windowed knock
sensing, supplemental IO with 24 J- or K-Type
thermocouples, and/or pressure sensing abilities
using Real Time Combustion Diagnostics and
Control for acoustic knock setup support. This
product can be an add-on to an existing system as
an independent device or could be used with the
Main and EID modules of a stacked LECM.

The LECM Aux Platform Knock software supports up


to 20 acoustic knock sensors for vibration-based
knock detection that can be monitored internally in
an LECM stack with the LECM Main board or
transmitted externally on a CAN network with the
J1939 protocol. The software features include:
Up to 20 independent cylinder-based acoustic knock windows
Up to 20 independent cylinder-based acoustic reference windows
Internal datalink cylinder knock ratios, signal saturation, and knock
window statuses transfer to LECM Main (stacked hardware
configurations)

Acoustic Knock Sensing


All LECM Aux Platform Knock software variants
support acoustic-based (vibrational) knock sensing
for up to 20 cylinders per module. Acoustic knock
sensor signals are monitored in user-defined
angular windows and Fourier analysis is used to
transform the windowed knock sensor signal to a
knock intensity (knock ratio).

Pressure Sensing
The 20KNK + 2/4P software variants support
pressure sensors that can be used for acoustic
knock sensing calibration and/or for real time
combustion diagnostics and control (RT-CDC). Using
