Chapter 5

Summary, Conclusions, and Recommendations

Chapter Five includes the Summary, Conclusions, and Recommendations of the study.

Part One, Summary, presents the major points and findings of the research study.

Part Two, Conclusions, presents the conclusion drawn from the results and the general

statement of the study.

Part Three, Recommendations, presents the suggestions and advice for further

development and improvement of other upcoming research study.

Summary

The study entitled “The Perceptions of JBLFMU-A SHS Students to the Maritime-

related Course in the Maritime Program” was conducted during the second semester of school

year 2017-2018. This study aimed to determine the perceptions of senior high school students

and was satisfied with the maritime-related course under the curriculum provided as

categorized by perception to course, knowledge about the course and perceptions to the

instructors’ performance and environment.

1. The Students’ perception to maritime-related course was very satisfied with a grand

mean of 3.18 and standard deviation of 0.73.

The study revealed the result noted, Maritime Safety, Maritime Career, Marine

Transportation and Engineering, Introduction to Navigation and Seamanship is challenging and

according to SHS students (m=3.42, SD=.950, Very satisfied); the pros and cons on of the

seafaring career is understandable and students are determined to pursue the career being

seafarer (m=3.44, SD=.675, Very satisfied); the subjects are enjoyable as well as educative

(m=3.34, SD=.688, Very satisfied); and these subjects are helpful to the future students of

BSMT Program (m=3.44, SD=.733, Very satisfied).

2. When the result was classified according to the perception about the knowledge of

they acquire from maritime-related course. Result was noted, students are aware of the duties

and responsibilities of crews and officers onboard the ship (m=3.12, SD=.872, Very satisfied);

students have the idea of what to perform in case of emergencies onboard (m=3.22, SD=.764,

Satisfied); lessons about navigation and seamanship are clear and teaches students its

application onboard (m=3.28, SD=.730, Satisfied); and the knowledge that SHS students

acquire from maritime-related courses are enough to proceed for BSMT Program (m=3.08,

SD=.665, Satisfied).

3. When the result was classified according to the perception of students in the instructors’

performance and environment. Result was noted, the instructors teach the right ethics onboard

and give students well-prepared lessons to develop them to be competitive in academics

(m=3.14, SD=.572, Satisfied); the instructors teach give equal opportunities for every student

in their respective recitation (m=2.98, SD=.654, Satisfied); the facilities and equipment

provided are relevant to the objective of the maritime-related courses (m=2.98, SD=.620,

Satisfied); and the rooms provided for the maritime-related courses are well-ventilated and

comfortable during discussion (m=2.68, SD=.844, Satisfied).

Conclusion

This research study presents the perceptions of Grade 12 senior high school students of

JBLFMU-A according to the category of perception towards the course, perception about the

knowledge of the course, and the perception in the instructors’ performance and environment

provided for the course which will meet the highest standard of satisfaction of the students.

Through analysis of the research questionnaires the previous chapters has enabled the

researchers to arrive at a valid and logical conclusion that the students was very satisfied with

the maritime-related course in the curriculum.

Recommendations

Based from the findings and conclusions, the researchers would like to recommend the

following:

1. Students. John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Arevalo Senior high school

department should continue to inspire and spread the good insights of being a seafarer and to

encourage everyone to take Pre Baccalaureate Maritime Specialization provided by the

institution for the K-12 program as a preparatory for the BSMT Program.

2. Principal. The Senior high school maritime-related course present provided

instructors would remain competent and teach quality education for every student. And to the

future instructors that the institution would provide, may they would be the same as competent

as the previous and enhance their skills to meet the expectations of the aspiring seafarers and

be a role model.

3. Admin. The students give a very satisfactory rate about the environment, and

equipment hence, may the institution continue to provide and enhance the facilities and

equipment given to the Senior high school curriculum and future BSMT students. We praise the

efforts given by the administration and we hope that they may further strive to exceed every

student’s expectation.

4. School. John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Arevalo Institution should

continue to give its unrelenting support and inspiration to the Senior high school students and

treat them as their valuable assets and partners in achieving its vision and goals.
