TCAS

This document provides procedures for pilots to follow during TCAS advisories, including: 1) Intruders are classified at four levels and TCAS panel information is described. 2) For a Traffic Advisory with AP/FD engaged, pilots announce "TCAS Blue" and monitor for a Resolution Advisory. 3) For a Resolution Advisory, pilots announce "Speed, TCAS" and follow Flight Director commands, respecting other warnings. 4) After a Clear of Conflict advisory, pilots adjust guidance and speeds as appropriate. Procedures without AP/FD engaged are similar but pilots have control.

• Manually on the TCAS Panel in Engine Out conditions, for flights with the landing

If the AP is OFF you can engage it.

If for any reason during an RA, the aircraft vertical speed does not reach the green
area of the vertical speed scale, disconnect the AP and override FD orders, in order
to lead the aircraft vertical speed out of the red area of the vertical speed scale. If
necessary, use the full speed range between Vαmax and Vmax.

Conclusion

Always follow TCAS mode or TCAS RA orders:

• In the correct direction
• Even if it is in contradiction with the ATC instruction
• Even if it results in crossing the altitude of the intruder
• Even at max ceiling altitude

When flying manually, do not overreact: Fly the green

Do not try to see intruders during a Resolution Advisory

Never maneuver in the opposite direction of the RA,

because TCAS maneuvers between aircrafts are
coordinated
