Background

Some subsistence farmers have been struggling to make ends meet due to lack of
income. Some farmers are selling their crops as raw materials and in turn will realise
less income. Research on crops that are being cultivated in your local area. Choose any
crop of your choice and suggest ways of adding value to that crop to enable the
subsistence farmer to realise a significant amount of income from their efforts.

The CALA

The CALA has two parts, Part A and B. You need to complete both parts.

Part A

 carryout a research identifying crops that are being cultivated in your area.

 research on how these crops can be added value.

 to do your research include: observations, interviews and use of questionnaires


as well as use of ICT tools.

Part B

 Prepare a document that explains how value can be added to any one product of
your choice.

 Make a presentation on your findings, be sure to include a sample of the product


of your choice which has been added value.
How you will be assessed

 To assess your write up, your facilitator will consider your research materials,
explanations about your product and originality.

 Achievement standards specific to this CALA will be provided so that you are
aware of the assessment criteria.

pictures

less income. Research on crops that are being cultivated in your local area. Choose any
