DLP-8 (Week 2 DAY 3)

The document is a quarterly lesson plan for teaching systems of linear inequalities in two variables to 8th grade math students. It includes objectives, content, procedures, examples, and assessments. The procedures describe graphing systems of linear inequalities, determining whether points satisfy the systems, and finding the solution set as the region satisfying both inequalities. Students will graph and solve example systems, as well as match municipalities to the springs they contain based on corresponding systems of linear inequalities.

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Reviewing or presenting the new lesson The students will enumerate different ordered
pairs.
What are the ordered pairs that will satisfy both
y > -3x + 5 and y < 2x – 4? Are they plenty?
How can you show the solution set of these
inequalities using graph?
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
A visual representation of the solution of a
system of linear inequalities in two variables will
be of great help to clarify its meaning
C. Presenting examples of the new lesson
a. Find the solution of the system:
y > -3x + 5
y < 2x – 4

b. Graph y > -3x + 5 and check for the correct

half plane.
y > - 3x + 5; (0, 0)
0 > -3(0) + 5
0 > 5, False

c. Graph y < 2x – 4 and check for the correct

half plane.
y < 2x – 4; (0, 0)
0 < 2(0) – 4
0 < 5, False

Thus, the half plane that does not contain the

origin is the solution set.
d. Combine the graphs in a Cartesian plane.
 The graph has now 4 regions, the non-
shaded, yellow-shaded, red-shaded, and the
region shaded by yellow and red that turns
orange.
Try to use a point in each region and check
which will satisfy in both quantities. Which
region contains the solution? *The points lying
on the double-shaded region, or the intersection
of the two graphs is the solution to the system of
linear inequalities in two variables.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing
new skills #1
1. How do you graph systems of linear
inequalities in two variables?
2. What is the solution set in a graph of system
of linear inequalities?
3. When can you say that a point is a solution to
the system of linear inequalities?
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new
skills #2
Determine if the given point is a solution of the
given system of inequalities.

1. (0, 0) x + 2y ≤ 6 and
2x – y < 4
2. (-2, 1) 2x – y ≤ 0 and
x + 2y ≤ 8
3. (4, -2) y < x + 2 and
y>x–3
4. (-1, 0) 4x – 3y ≥ 12 and
8x – 6y > 6
5. (-6, 0) y ≥ 2x – 6 and
x+y>2
F. Developing Mastery
Graph the following system of linear
inequalities. Use the given colors in each
inequality for shading and determine the new
color that will form by finding the solution set of
the systems.

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and

skills in daily living
Graph the following systems of linear
inequalities.

1. x + 2y ≤ 6 and
2x – y < 4
2. 2x – y ≤ 0 and
x + 2y ≤ 8
3. y < x + 2 and
y>x–3
4. 4x – 3y ≥ 12 and
8x – 6y > 6
5. y ≥ 2x – 6 and
x+y>2
H. Making Generalizations and abstractions  A system of linear inequalities is the set of
about the lesson inequalities solved simultaneously.
 The points that satisfy the inequalities are
What is the system of linear inequalities? the solution of the inequalities.
How to graph?  In a graph, the solution to a system of
linear inequalities is the points on which
part of the shaded region or the points that
can make both inequalities true.
To graph a system of linear inequalities, graph
both inequalities in a Cartesian plane and
check for the correct half plane using the
origin. The points lying on the shaded region
is the solution set to the system. Check your
answer by using a test point on the region. If
the point satisfies both inequalities, then the
graph is correct.
I. Evaluating learning Municipalities
Match the following systems of linear Gen. Aguinaldo
inequalities to their corresponding graphs.
Each system was named according to the
Springs in Cavite and to be matched with the
municipalities where they can be found.
Springs
1. Balite 6y – 3x ≤ 3
Spring x + 2y ≥ 3
2. Saluysoy y ≥ 3x + 1
Spring y≤x+1 Mendez
3. Matang
