1.3 DEFINITION
ARC STRIKE
An arc strike is a discontinuity consisting of any localized remelted metal,
heat-affected metal, or change in the surface profile of any part of a weld
or base metal resulting from an ARC.
Arc strikes result when the arc is initiated on the base metal surface away
from the weld joint by accidentally.
2.1 GENERAL
Arc strikes outside weld bevels shall be avoided. If this occur, the repair of
the Arc strikes shall be agreed with Company prior to commencement of
work.
The resulting cavity will be thoroughly cleaned and checked for complete
removal of damaged area by etching with a 10 % solution of ammonium
persulfate or a 5 % solution of nital.
After completely removing the arc strike the area will be 100% examined
by magnetic particles or dye penetrant examination to ensure freedom
from cracks.
The final wall thickness of the arc strike area may not be less than that
