A LEAP OF FAITH

1.INT.BEDROOM.NIGHT

R is sitting on the desk in front of her 2 books, a cooking


book and an engineering book (university book).

She looks hesitant at the cooking book and reaches out to


open it and when she almost reach it she freezes and looks at
the engineering book and gets a flashback.

FADE TO:

2.INT.LIVINGROOM.MORNING

R is looking at the acceptance letter to the university her


parents told her to apply to, she just got accepted in the
engineering major and her mother and father around her are
over the moon and so proud of her.

MOTHER
I am so proud of you! My little
daughter is going to become a great
engineer.

Mother hugs R.

MOTHER (CONT'D)
I am going to call everyone and
tell them how proud i am of you.
You just raised our heads.

FADE OUT:

3.INT.BEDROOM.NIGHT (CONT)

R sights and picks up the engineering book to study. And


pushes the culinary book aside.

CUT TO:

3.EXT. CAFE. MORNING

R is sitting in a cafe studying for her exams while savoring


a tiramisu. Instead of solving the questions she writes at
the side what’s inside the tiramisu and how she thinks it
could be better. She keep scribbling down some ingredients at
the side leaving her questions unsolved.

CUT TO:

4.INT. KITCHEN. MIDDAY

R cooking her own tiramisu. She moves around the kitchen


happily while whisking couple of ingredients together.

CUT TO:

5.INT.GRANDMA’S LIVINGROOM.NIGHT

R is cutting for herself a piece of the tiramisu she did and


goes to sit.

The family is eating R’s tiramisu while having a


conversation. Grandma starts talking.

GRANDMA
Ohh how time flies by and I still
to this day regret my major. I
never enjoyed a day in my work ever
till retirement.

R is surprised by her Gramdma’s confession

R
Why grandma?

GRANDMA
What I wanted to major in took less
grades than mine and I felt bad for
wasting my grades so I chose
something that took higher grades
to make use of my grades and to
have a higher seen major.

R
Would you choose differently if you
went back in time?

GRANDMA
NO! My entire family was proud of
me and also it was a more noble
profession. People looked at me
with higher respect.

The family kept talking but R spaced out in her own thoughts

CUT TO:

6.INT. BEDROOM. MIDDAY

R is sitting on her bed while scrolling through her phone.She


sees a cooking competition announcement and stares at it for
a while then she shuts her phone.

R picks up her study book and starts studying then a


notification comes to her phone. She looks at it. “deadline
for your final submission is in 2 days”

GRANDMA (O.S.)
I never enjoyed a day in my work
ever till retirement.

R puts down the book and picks up her phone.

R scrolls through her phone searching for the competition she


saw before when she finally sees itshe relaxes and starts
reading more information about it.

R (V.O.)
This is a competition offered to
you by the Culinary Institute of
America at Hyde Park in NYC. We
will pick 20 students from around
the world and offer them a full
scholarship to our institute. To
win you must cook a dessert that
will dazzle our judges. The
competition is on 20 Feb 2020 and
to in list we only have one
condition. You must not be in any
university.

R puts down the phone and puts her head in her hand

R picks up her laptop and opens the university site.

She hovers over the “drop out” button for a while, then she
finally presses it and closes the laptop then picks up her
phone and in lists in the competition.

CUT TO:

7.INT.LIVINGROOM.MIDDAY

R arguing with her mother.

MOTHER
You should have taken my consent
first!

R
You would have said no and its my
own life.

MOTHER
Yes indeed I would have said no!
You want to leave the noble job of
being an engineer to seek an
unrealistic profession! What would
people say about you!

R
Thats all you care about. This is
my life and I should be the one to
choose how I live it!

MOTHER
You already chose... But don’t come
back to me crying later and blame
me on how you wasted your life..

Mother is disappointed in R.

R
I WONT! I just wish you had more
faith in me..

R storms out of the room

CUT TO:

8.INT. BEDROOM. MORNING

R’s alarm rings and R wakes up. She gets out of bed and
approaches her calendar.

R picks up a pen and writes on 20 FEB “COMPETITION DAY” then


she circles it couple of times and get out of her room.

CUT TO:

9.INT. KITCHEN. MORNING

R picks her apron and wears it, then she ties her hair back.
And get out a couple of ingredients on the shelf. Then she
picks up an egg and crack it in a bowl.

CUT TO:

10.INT. KITCHEN. NIGHT

R picks out the cupcakes from the oven and tastes one then
she shakes her head.

CUT TO:

11.INT. KITCHEN. MORNING

R is whisking something in a bowl she tastes it then adds


something to the mixture.She Tastes it again then frowns and
empties the mixture in the trash bin.

CUT TO:

12.INT. KITCHEN. NIGHT

R is needling a dough

CUT TO:

13.INT. KITCHEN. MIDNIGHT

R is picking out her cinnamon rolls while she looks very


tires.

Mother enters the kitchen

MOTHER
You should get some sleep. You
haven’t been sleeping for days.

Mother looks worried.

R
I will sleep after one more trial
the competition is in a week.

Mother sights then leaves the kitchen.

CUT TO:

14.INT.HALLWAY (COMPETITION DAY).MORNING

R carrying her backpack and getting ready to leave the house.

MOTHER
Good luck...

R looks at her back at her mother.

R
Thank you.

R leaves the house.

CUT TO:

14.INT. BEDROOM. MORNING

R keeps refreshing her email, waiting for the results mail to


arrive.

After a while the email arrives. R opens it hastily. Then


freezes.

Mother enters R’s room.

MOTHER
Did the results come out?

R looks very sad at her mother.

R
I didn’t get in.....

MOTHER
Ohhh. You have done your best maybe
this is a sign. Thats why I told
you not to do this. Your dad and I
are ready to forgive you so get
your head back together and get
back to your university thats the
right thing to do. Its still not to
late you will only be late by a
semester.

R looks angry at her mother.

R
Who told you I am regretting any of
this?

R gets out of her bed and stands up.

R (CONT'D)
I only failed once. Maybe I will
fail again many other times but I
will not give up till I reach what
I want. I’m not sure how, but I
know I will.

CUT TO:

15.INT. BEDROOM. NIGHT

R hold up many quotes and starts hanging them on her hanged


pin board .

“No great things are created suddenly”

“Failure is a bruise not a tattoo”

“Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try”

“If the plan doesn’t work, change the plan. Never the goal”

“You get what you work for, not what you wish for”

“I can and I will. End of story”

She looks at her board when she’s finished proudly and takes
a deep breath.

CUT TO:

16.INT. BEDROOM. NIGHT

R opens her laptop and searches for thee best culinary


schools in the work. Then presses enter.

CUT TO:

17.INT.BEDROOM.NIGHT

R is sitting on the desk in front of her 2 books, a cooking


book and an engineering book. She picks up the engineering
book and pushes it in the trash bin then she smiles and opens
the cooking book.

Screen starts to blur then “A LEAP OF FAITH” appears in the


middle of the screen then it starts to roll to the top as the
credits appear.

FADE TO BLACK.
