Project 2023

This document summarizes a student project to design a flexible and wireless controlled solar module cleaning robot. The robot will use rotating brushes and pressurized water to remove dust from solar panels more efficiently than existing manual cleaning methods. This will ensure the panels generate close to their rated power output. A lifting mechanism will allow a single robot to clean multiple panels installed at different heights, making the cleaning process more flexible and cost-effective than existing methods. The document outlines the objectives, significance, estimated costs, schedule, and conceptual design of the cleaning robot.

SOLAR MODULE CLEANING ROBOT.

(Vertical Lifting Mechanism and Solar Panel Cleaning Robot Mechanisms)

Jackline A. Kitosi (NIT/BAEL/2020/797).

This project is submitted in partial Fulfillment of the Requirement for the award of
the Bachelor Degree in Automobile Engineering of the National Institute of
Transport

1. Problem statements.
Dust particles accumulated into solar panel as the one of solar sheading, highly
reduces the amount of power generated on solar panels hence the efficiencies of
solar panels daily decreasing and the existing method of solar cleaning is highly
risk, require large manual work and costly in term of time used, labor’s and
water.
Therefore, the risk free, less labor power, and low time consuming method of
solar panel cleaning is highly required in order to ensure the electrical power
generation capacity of solar modules for different daily uses such as home and
agricultural uses is maintained.
2. Objectives.
2.1 Main objectives.
The main objective is designing of the flexible and wireless controlled solar
module cleaning robot.
2.2 Specific objectives.
i. Studying the existed solar module cleaning methods.
ii. Designing the efficiency and risk free solar module cleaning method.
iii. Manufacturing of flexible and wireless controlled solar module cleaning
robot.
iv. Testing the flexibility and performance of the manufactured prototype
system.
3. Significant of the study
i. Ensuring the solar module generate electric power as rated power by 95%
per manufacture design expectation, since rotating brush mechanism with
pressurized water remove dust at high efficiency keeping the solar cells
exposure to more sun light.
ii. Risk free method for solar module cleaning, since there is no need for a
person to climb the roof for controlling the robot, this mean the cleaning
robot will be controlled from ground surface level.
iii. Flexible solar cleaning method, only one cleaning robot is enough for the
many solar panel that installed at different location by shifting or
installing many vertical lifting mechanisms on each solar panel modules.
iv. Cost saving method due to little labor force required just one person for
controlling and very little water will be used.

4. Project cost estimation.
