Fuel Injection Pump Housing and Governor - Install

Installation Procedure

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

1. Install fuel injection pump gear (10) .

2. Install O-ring seal (11) .

3. Install the washer and nut (9) onto the fuel injection pump gear. Tighten nut (9) to a torque
of 83 to 98 N·m (61 to 72 lb ft).

4. Use a suitable lifting device in order to secure the fuel injection pump housing and the
governor (7) .

Note: Because the idler gear has an odd number of teeth, orientation of the fuel injection
pump gear is critical. Orient the marks that were made during the removal of the fuel
injection pump. After installation, ensure that the mark on the fuel injection pump gear is
aligned to the mark on the idler gear.

Note: For installation of a new fuel injection pump gear, refer to Specifications, "Gear
Group (Front)" and Testing and Adjusting, "Gear Group (Front) - Time" for the proper
installation procedure.

Note: If the marks are lost or never made use the following procedure in order to install the
pump.

5. Position the engine cylinder 1 at TDC.

6. Rotate the gear on the injection pump so that the 3's on the gear teeth will engage with the
engine idler gear.

7. Install the injection pump so that 3's on the pump gear straddle the one gear tooth on the
engine idler gear.

8. Install the washer and nut (8) onto the housing (front).

9. Connect engine oil line (6) .

10. Install the washer and nut (5) onto the cylinder block.

11. Check the O-ring seal on the cover (4) . Replace the O-ring seal, if necessary.

12. Install cover (4) .

13. Install 5 bolts (3) onto cover (4) of the fuel injection pump.

14. Connect fuel hoses (1) and (2) .

Note: Set the time for the injection pump. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, SENR6457.

End By: Install the fuel injection lines. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Injection Lines
- Remove and Install".
