Assignment 5

This document contains an assignment for a radar systems engineering course. It includes 3 questions asking students to 1) design an algorithm to estimate motion parameters like velocity and acceleration of multiple targets accounting for noise, clutter and variations, 2) develop an adaptive range splitting strategy for air traffic control radar to effectively track aircraft at different distances, and 3) design a monopulse radar system for maritime surveillance that can accurately estimate azimuth and elevation angles of vessels using specialized antenna and signal processing techniques.

Assignment 5
Subject: Radar Systems Engineering (COMM-03750)

Max: Marks: 10

Qno.1: Design a radar signal processing algorithm that can accurately CLO-03
estimate the motion parameters (radial velocity, acceleration) of [5]
multiple targets detected within the radar's coverage area. Consider
how you would handle noise, clutter, and variations in target
behavior while ensuring high accuracy in parameter estimation.
Qno.2: Develop a range splitting strategy for a radar system used in air traffic CLO-03
control. Discuss how you would segment the radar's coverage area [2]
into range gates to effectively detect and track aircraft at different
distances. Propose adaptive range splitting mechanisms that can
dynamically adjust based on changing traffic densities and
environmental conditions.
Qno.3: Design a monopulse radar system for maritime surveillance that CLO-02
accurately estimates both azimuth and elevation angles of incoming [3]
vessels within the radar's operational area. Outline the antenna
design and signal processing techniques needed to achieve high
angular accuracy and distinguish between multiple vessels navigating
at varying distances and angles.
