10TH PHYSICS TEST Max mark: 15

I. One mark questions

1. A concave mirror produces a magnification of +4. The object is placed:

(a) At the focus
(b) Between focus and centre of curvature
(c) Between focus and pole
(d) Beyond the centre of curvature

2. Two big mirrors A and B are fitted side by side on a wall. A man is standing at such a distance from the
wall that he can see the erect image of his face in both the mirrors. When the man starts walking
towards the mirrors, he finds that the size of his face in mirror A goes on increasing but that in mirror B
remains the same:
(a) Mirror A is concave and mirror B is convex
(b) Mirror A is plane and mirror B is concave
(c) Mirror A is concave and mirror B is plane
(d) Mirror A is convex and mirror B is concave

II. Two mark questions

3. For the same angle of incidence in media P, Q and R, the angles of refraction are 45°, 35° and 15°
respectively. In which medium will the velocity of light be minimum? Give reason.
4. A doctor has prescribed a corrective lens of power +1.5 D. Find the focal length of the lens. Is the
prescribed lens diverging or converging?
5. If the image formed by a spherical mirror for all positions of the object placed in front of it, is always
erected and diminished, what type of mirror is it? Draw a labelled ray diagram to support your answer.
6. As the velocity of light increases, the refractive index of the medium decreases. Light enters from air to
water having refractive index 4/3. Find the speed of light in water. The speed of light in vacuum is
3 x 108 m/s.
7. An object is placed at the following distances from a concave mirror of focal length 15 cm.
(a) 10 cm (b) 20 cm (c) 30 cm (d) 40 cm . Which position of the object will produce:
(i) Virtual image
(ii) A diminished real image
(iii) An enlarged real image
(iv) An image of same size.

III. Three mark questions

8. A student focused the image of a candle flame on a white screen by placing the flame at various
distances from a convex lens. He noted his observations:

a) From the above table, find the focal length of

lens without using lens formula.
b) Which set of observations is incorrect and why?
c) In which case the size of object and image will be
same? Give reason for your answer.
