A RESOLUTION DECLARING ADOPTION OF NNC GOVERNING


BOARD RESOLUTION NO. 6 SERIES OF 2012: THE NUTRITIONAL
GUIDELINES FOR FILIPINOS.

WHEREAS, R.A. 7160 otherwise known as the Local Government Code of


1991 has mandated the Local Government Unit to provide basic social services
particularly on Health and Nutrition Program and further elaborated under the
1987 Philippine Constitution of which the state is mandated to protect the health
of the people.

WHEREAS, Presidential Decree NO. 491 provides for the directives for the
sustainable implementations and management of the nutrition program down to
the grassroots level in order to manage malnutrition problem of the country.

WHEREAS, the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition is the Country’s


national framework plan for nutrition with the overall goal of quality human
resources in the country and reduce child and maternal mortality.

NOW, THEREFORE:

BE IT RESOLVED, A RESOLUTION DECLARING ADOPTION OF


NNC GOVERNING BOARD RESOLUTION NO. 6 SERIES OF 2012:
THE NUTRITIONAL GUIDELINES FOR FILIPINOS.

FOR THE SMOOTH IMPLEMENTATIONS of this barangay resolutions the


following guidelines shall apply:
A. Follow strictly the NGF consists of 10 messages that include both food-based and
behaviour-driven guidelines that address current nutritional and dietary concerns as
prescribed by the national nutrition Council.
B. Development of region-based promotional materials, NGF shall ensure that materials
developed are correct and consistent with the NGF messages. Materials should be
checked and double-checked for correct spelling, grammar and lay-out. The materials
should use photos (not caricature or cartoons) of Filipinos and not of other
nationalities; photos of food products that are locally-available and not foreign foods.
When appropriate, the IEC materials should carry the NNC and DOH logos and the
“Wastong Nutrisyon” icon; the NNC contact addresses particularly the website, FB
page and twitter account.

C. The following are the TEN messages for Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos(NGF);
1) Eat a variety of foods every day to get the nutrients needed by the body.
2) Breastfeed infants exclusively from birth up to 6 months then give appropriate
complementary foods while continuing breastfeeding for 2 years and beyond for
optimum growth and development.
3) Eat more vegetables and fruits every day to get the essential vitamins, minerals
and fiber for regulation of body processes.
4) Consume fish, lean meat, poultry, egg, dried beans or nuts daily for growth and
repair of body tissues.
5) Consume milk, milk products and other calcium-rich foods, such as small fish
and shellfish, every day for healthy bones and teeth.
6) Consume safe foods and water to prevent diarrhea and other food- and water-
borne diseases.
7) Use iodized salt to prevent Iodine Deficiency Disorders.
8) Limit intake of salty, fried, fatty and sugar-rich foods to prevent cardiovascular
diseases.
9) Attain normal body weight through proper diet and moderate physical activity to
maintain good health and help prevent obesity.
10) Be physically active, make healthy food choices, manage stress, avoid alcoholic
beverages and do not smoke to help prevent lifestyle-related non-communicable
diseases.
