ASSESSMENT METHOD: Individual Reflective Report

WEIGHTING: This assessment forms 40% of the total module mark

WORD COUNT:1000 - 1250 words.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: LO1, LO2, LO3, LO5, LO7

Question

1. How can Business Management students acquire, develop and improve on their
employability during their university programme? (300 words) – 10%

2. What skills must Business Management graduates develop to ensure their employability
in the current trend of increasing remote and flexible working? (300 words) – 10%

3. Outline your Personal Development Plan by identifying your strengths, weaknesses,


short-term and long-term academic and career goals. (300 words) – 10%

Your Personal Development Plan must include the following:


i. Establish your purpose or direction
ii. Identify development needs
iii. Identify learning opportunities
iv. Formulate an action plan
v. Undertake the development
vi. Record the outcomes
vii. Evaluate and review

4. Write a reflective report on why it is important to study academic writing,


communication, and presentation skills through exercises such as case-study analysis,
report writing, and presentation. (350 words) – 10%

NB: For all the questions, list different library resources, online resources, and incorporate
referencing skills needed for successful academic writing.

Guidance:
• You are advised to use the numbers above to split your report into three section
• You will not be penalised for using first person pronouns. This is a reflective report
and will need to show your personal thoughts and feelings. However, please be
aware this is an academic exercise and therefore should show not just personal
thoughts and feelings, but evidence of thoughts and feelings being informed or
supported by academic knowledge gained from your lectures and seminars as well as
wider reading (through the use of direct quotations, with correct citations, and a
bibliography. If you are unsure of how to cite material please speak to your academic
or AES tutors).

• Useful Vocabulary: Meaningful, significant, important, relevant, experienced,


applied, discussed, analysed, learnt, developed, improved, enriched, upgraded

development plan comprising of short- and long-term career and academic goals and
objectives.

LO5: Explain and discuss the importance of employability skills and how they can be
developed during the undergraduate study.

LO7: Develop academic writing, communication, and presentation skills through case-study
analysis, report writing, and presentation.

Deadline
Submission Dates and Times
You must submit your work on Turnitin. Monday 6 December, 2021 at 12:00pm
Submission forms are not in use during the (noon)
distance learning changes.

Penalties
Penalties will be applied to any work submitted late. No submissions may be made after 24
hours – work will not be accepted or marked.
Candidates who exceed the word count by more than 10% should have 10 percentage
marks deducted. Word count excludes, title, candidate number, bibliography and
appendices. It includes the body of the text, all footnotes and in-text referencing.

If a candidate is late (but within 24 hours of the deadline) with their submission, they should
have 10 percentage marks deducted.

Attention –Please note:

You must do all of the following:

• On the front sheet of your assignment write SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT 1 FOR


MANAGEMENT FIRST. Also, on this front sheet, include your candidate number and
the total word count of your assessment (the word count should not exceed 10%
above the required number of words for this assignment).

• Write your candidate number on the top right corner of each page of your work.

• Make sure all quotes, summaries and paraphrases are correctly referenced as
explained in the RHI Harvard Referencing Guide. In addition, make sure a full
alphabetical bibliography is included at the end of your written reflection, if this is
appropriate, detailing all texts cited in the body of the work and any others that have
been consulted. The Bibliography must follow the format laid out in the RHI Harvard
Referencing Guide.

• Avoid using Wikipedia and other commercial websites as sources because they are
acceptable as evidence in your writing. If you have any doubts about what sources
are viewed as non-academic, please check with your tutor.

• Word process your work in Arial or Times Roman in size 12 font and use double-
spacing.

• Make it clear where paragraphs begin and end by leaving an extra space between
paragraphs.

• Ensure that your word processor uses UK spelling and adheres to UK grammar rules.
