3 Which city do you think is in the northern hemisphere? Give your reasons. (Think what time of year is
summer in the northern hemisphere.)

__________________________________________________________________________________
it is city B as the summer is in feb to mar so the temperatures are higher on this time

4 a Describe the climate in city A. (Think which of these descriptions fits city A.)

Climate zone Description of climate

polar very cold and dry all year

temperate cold winters and mild summers

arid hot and dry all year

tropical hot and wet all year

Mediterranean mild winters and hot, dry summers

mountains/tundra very cold all year

5 Describe the rainfall in city B. (Think about which months have the same amount of rain. Which
months do not have the same amount of rain? How much more rain is there in these months?)

The rainfall in city B is low cause there is only few of rain during

feb which is the highest.
__________________________________________________________________________________

__________________________________________________________________________________
6 How is the rainfall in city B different from the rainfall in city A? (Make a general statement about the
rainfall in the two cities. Then compare when each is the wettest and when each is the driest.)

In city A there is a lot of rainfall so it is more damp or it is the wettest.

__________________________________________________________________________________

__________________________________________________________________________________
In city B there is less rainfall so it is more dry than in city A.

Looking at temperature data
These data show the average temperature in a city each month for the same year.

Month Average temperature in °C

January 5
February 6
March 9
April 14
May 17
June 21
July 25
August 26
September 23
October 18
November 12
December 7
1 If you were asked to present these data in some form of graph, how would you do it?
Why would you choose this method?

i would use the bar chart. It is more suitable for the table.

Looking at temperature data
Additional notes
1 Think about which would be most helpful a line graph or a bar chart?
Things you need to think about are:
• If I use a line graph, can I join the points together? Would that make any sense?
• What am I trying to do here: compare each month or link each month?
2 Look for the month with the highest temperature in the chart.
3 The word range means from the highest to the lowest temperature.
4 The word consecutive means following on from each other.
Work out the change in temperature each month and write it alongside the line of the table
between the two months.
Has the temperature gone up or gone down? (For example, between January and February
the average monthly temperature increased by 1 °C; between February and March it increased
by 3 °C.)
Find the months that have the biggest difference.
5 How often do you think the temperature would have been taken? Every day? Many times a day?
At different times of the day?
How is the average worked out?
