This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the Learner:
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being an active
learner.
Posttest - This measures how much you have learned from the
entire module.

Safety and hazard symbols are an instant way of warning and identifying
threats to avoid a possibly hazardous conditions and electrical hazards in the area.
These colored or illuminated signboards are universally recognized and have clear
written or picture messages. Alerting workers to high voltage areas, electrical
hazards, power lines and other electrical equipment within the area, can help prevent
fires and injuries. Proper electrical signs can inform workers of the dangers in the
area.

A single cell or other power source is represented by a long and a short parallel
line. A collection of cells or battery is represented by a collection of long and short
parallel lines. In both cases, the long line is represented by the positive terminal of
the energy source and the short line represents the negative terminal. A straight line
is utilized to represent a connecting wire between any two components of the circuit.
An electrical device that gives resistance to the flow of charge is generically referred
to as a resistor and is represented by a zigzag line. An open switch is generally
represented by providing a break in a straight line by lifting a portion of the line
upward at a diagonal. It will be imperative to either memorize these symbols or to
refer to the table of common electrical symbols as often as possible until you become
accustomed to their use.
The diagram below is the illustration of the pictorial circuit diagram and
schematic circuit diagram where the Three D-cells are placed in a battery pack to
power a circuit containing three light bulbs. This means that pictorial circuit diagram
uses simple images of components, while a schematic diagram shows the
components and interconnections of the circuit using standardized symbolic
representations.

Using verbal description, one can acquire a mental picture of the circuit being
described. This verbal description can then be represented by a drawing of three cells
and three light bulbs associated by wires. Finally, the circuit symbols displayed
above can be used to represent the same circuit. Note that three sets of long and
short parallel lines have been utilized to represent the battery pack with its three D-
cells. And note that each light bulb is represented by its own individual resistor
symbol. Straight lines have been utilized to associate the two terminals of the battery
to the resistors and the resistors to each other.
