EditionGuard Magento Demo Reference Guide

On our Magento Demo website, the EditionGuard eBook DRM Integration Extension is
already installed and configured with a demo account. Here is the link for the extension:

http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/editionguard-ebook-drm-integration-

1. Adding Your eBooks to the Magento Product Catalog

Visit http://magento.editionguard.com/admin with your browser and login with following

credentials:

● Username : demo
● Password : demo123456

* Due to security reasons the demo account permissions are limited.

After logging in, go to the Catalog->Manage Products menu option

Click the “Add Product” button

Set “Product Settings” as:

● Attribute Set -> Default

● Product Type -> Downloadable Product

then click “Continue”

Now we have started to fill in product details. In our case, our product is actually either a PDF
or an ePub formatted eBook. For an example eBook product, fill in the details of the eBook by
following the steps below.

A. General

● Name
● Description
● Short Description
● SKU ( Stock Keeping Unit - you can use the eBook ISBN )
● Status -> Enabled
● Visibility -> Catalog, Search
B. Prices

● Price
● Tax Class -> None

C. Images ( Optional )

Press “Browse Files...” button and select your eBook cover image, than press “Upload Files”.
Once you’ve uploaded your cover image, select radio boxes as in the following image:

● Base Image
● Small Image
● Thumbnail

D. Inventory

First, uncheck “Use Config Settings” under “Manage Stock” , than set “Manage Stock” to
“No”. (Since eBooks are digital products, we don’t have physical stock)
● Manage Stock -> No

“Maximum Qty Allowed in Shopping Cart” -> uncheck “Use Config Settings” then set to “1”
● Maximum Qty Allowed in Shopping Cart -> 1
E. Categories

Add your eBook to Default Category and the eBooks category by checking the boxes next to
them.

F. Downloadable Information

We are going to upload the eBook with EditionGuard DRM option. You can leave the
“Samples” tab empty, it is not necessary for a demo. In a real scenario, you can use this to
upload an eBook sample, for example the first 20 pages of the eBook.

Under the “Links” tab fill “Title” as “eBook Formats”

● Title -> eBook Formats

● Links can be purchased separately -> Yes
To upload the eBook file, press “Add New Row” button and it will create a new row with
uploading options.

Filling out the eBook Row

● Title -> Placing both the eBook title and the eBook format recommended ( Ex: eBook
Title - ePub (Adobe DRM) )
● Price -> leave empty we have set it before
● Max Downloads -> 10 ( for demo issue )
● Shareable -> Use Config
● EditionGuard -> Yes ( applying EditionGuard DRM on eBook )
● Sample -> leave empty ( for demo issue )
● File -> click the button and select ePub or PDF formatted eBook file
● Sort Order -> leave empty ( for demo issue )

then click “Upload Files” button.

Once the file is uploaded, click “Save” and exit from the product menu.

Now our eBook is ready to be sold with EditionGuard DRM. It has already been entered into
product catalog and listed on the Magento frontend.

2. End User Simulation

In this second part of our guide, we’ll be looking at how things work on the End User side.

First, we will need Adobe Digital Editions and an AdobeID to download and read an
EditionGuard DRM protected eBook. You can Download Adobe Digital Editions from the
following link and create an AdobeID all for free, in case you don’t have them already.

Adobe Digital Editions : http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/

AdobeID : https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/membership/

The slides at the following link explains how the cycle works

Next, please visit EditionGuard Magento Demo site http://magento.editionguard.com . Select

eBooks that you like to purchase and add them to your cart .
Proceed to checkout and complete the checkout process. Since this is just a demo, fill in
whatever you like to the fields. There is only a dummy “Check / Money order” payment
method active for the demo, you have to approve it but won’t actually have to pay.
Complete your order by pressing the “Place Order” button. Now your order is placed
awaiting approval on the backend. To approve your order please login to magento admin
panel with the following information:

Go to : Sales -> Orders

Find the order you just placed with the “Pending” status. Then click on the order row.

Once you get the “Order View” click the “Invoice” button to approve your order.

Now you just have to click the “Submit Invoice” button to complete your order.
Now you can download the eBook from frontend. Please visit
http://magento.editionguard.com and login with the account you placed the order with.

After logging into the frontend, go to “My Account” than “My Downloadable Products”.

Find the eBook that you previously ordered on the list ( Status = Available ). Once you found
the eBook, you can start downloading “.acsm” file which is generated by EditionGuard.
Open the “.acsm” file with Adobe Digital Editions.
The eBook will be downloaded shortly.

Now you are ready to read your DRM protected eBook!
