Project Context
Motorcycles are fun to ride but accidents always get in the way, as a rider you are also
task to know what are the dangers when riding one. Motorcycle accidents tend to be more fatal
than car accidents because motorcyclist rides out in an open area. That is why set rules which
is the Motorcycle helmet act of 2009.
Types of Helmet
You can do it! Break a leg
The Problem
Despite of the fact that there is an act on wearing helmet there are riders that tends to
break rules and disregards the use of helmet when riding motorcycles. That is why accident rate
caused by motorcycle increases every year. According to the survey of Metropolitan Manila
Development Authority in 2018, a total of 116,906 motorcycle accidents were reported,
representing an increase of 6.25% from the year prior. In 2019, the total of reported motorcycle
accidents rose to 121,771, representing a year-on-year increase of 4.16%.
An Alternative
Since most motorcyclists are too lazy to bring or wear their helmet, the proponents
decided to create a smart helmet that will require motorcyclists to wear their helmet before they
can start their motorcycle. With the help of the Arduino.
Purpose and Description
The proposed projects involve development of an innovative safety gear that will reduce
the number of people killed in motorcycle accidents with the help of the sensors, such as an
alcohol sensor to track or detect if the driver is drunk or if the driver is under the influence of
liquor, crash collision sensor if the motorcyclist is involved in an accident and GSM module to
notify the registered guardian that the motorcyclist is involved in an accident.
The proponents decide to create a smart helmet that ensures a rider wears it before
turning the engine on. In case of being drunk the engine will automatically turn off. The goal of
this project is to minimize accident rates and to enforce riders to wear helmets. The smart
helmet contains a range of sensors that read and process data, including a GPS sensor, a
crash collision sensor, and an alcohol sensor.
