ORGB 24 - Final Test

 Final Test will be written during Week 13, in your regularly scheduled
seminar period and classroom.
 No late entry will be permitted.
 Students must have a charged laptop, with Lockdown Browser
downloaded and installed.

/30 Part 1: Multiple Choice – 30 multiple choice questions worth 1 mark each

/25 Part 2: Short Answer Question Pool – 5 questions from the pool below will
be presented on the test – each question is worth 5 marks in total

Chapter 6

 Describe the 5 different types of teams and give a real-life example of each
one.

 Identify and discuss the four ways that norms develop within groups and
how they influence an individual’s behaviour.

 List and describe the five stages of group development.

 What are the considerations that determine if work would be better


completed by an individual or by a group? (2 marks)
Using examples, define and describe roles, role expectations and role
conflict. (3 marks)

Chapter 7

 Identify and describe the 7 key parts of the communication process model.

 Explain channel richness. Based on channel richness, give examples of


messages best conveyed by email, by face-to-face communication, and on
the company bulletin board.

 Explain 5 of the common barriers to effective communication.

 How do you distinguish formal from informal communication? (2 marks)


What are the differences between downward, upward, and lateral

 Describe 3 small-group networks using examples. What are the differences

Chapter 8

 What is power? (1 mark)


How does dependence affect power?(1 mark)
Using examples, identify and describe three factors that create resource
dependence. (3 marks)

 Identify and describe the five bases, or sources, of power generally used
within organizations. Provide distinct examples for each.

 Influence tactics are one way in which employees influence each other.
Identify and describe, using examples of how one person could use 5
tactical strategies to influence another person.

 What does it mean to be empowered? Describe the 4 characteristics of


empowered employees and predict how an employee would feel or act if
their job has that characteristic.

 Describe the five ways managers can protect themselves and their
employees from sexual harassment.

Chapter 9

 What is conflict? Describe the 3 types of conflict and an example of when


you personally experienced each type.

 Compare functional and dysfunctional conflict. (2 marks) What are the


three loci of conflict? (3 marks)

 Distinguish between distributive and integrative bargaining and highlight


situations in which each would be most appropriately used.

 Using examples, identify and describe the five conflict management


strategies and the accompanying behaviours.

 Using the five conflict-handling strategies and examples from a typical


workplace, describe situations when each strategy would be a good choice
for managing a conflict. You can place yourself in the role of a manager or
in the role of an employee in the situations.

 Describe organizational culture. (1 mark) Explain 4 of the 7 primary
characteristics that capture the essence organizational culture. (4 marks)
 What factors create and sustain an organization’s culture?
 Identify the process through which employees learn about an
organization's culture. Describe the four ways that this information is
transmitted to employees.
 List and describe five strategies for creating and sustaining an ethical
culture.

Chapter 11
 How are leadership and management different from one another?
 Compare and contrast transactional and transformational leadership. -
 What leadership roles are available to nonmanagers? Describe a time that
you took on a leadership role without a formal title of leadership.
