Section B
21. Dilution of concentrated acid with water is a highly exothermic 2
process. If water is added into acid, the heat produced is so large that
solution may splash out and the beaker in which it is carried out may
break due to excessive heating. Hence dilution is done by adding acid
into water .
22. 2

23. Prostate glands and seminal vesicles add fluid to the semen. This 2
makes transportation of sperms easier and also provides nutrition to
the sperms.

OR
After the pollen has landed on the stigma, it grows a pollen tube down
through the style to the ovary. The nucleus of the pollen grain travels
down the pollen tube and fertilizes the nucleus in the ovule. The
fertilized ovule develops into a seed & the ovary develops into the fruit.
24. The species reproducing sexually has comparatively better chances of 1+1
survival than the one reproducing asexually. This is because of the
greater variations in the species reproducing sexually as it helps the
species to fit better in changing environmental conditions.
25. Reflex actions are sudden & involuntary responses to stimuli that are 1+1
potentially harmful. An example of such a reaction is the sudden
withdrawal of hand while touching a hot surface.
OR
The movement of tendril around the support is caused by the hormone
auxin. Less auxin occurs on the side of contact as compared to the free
side. Auxin promotes the growth on the free side. As a result of growth
on the free side, the tendril coils around the support.
26. Because (i) the resistivity of an alloy is much higher than that of pure 2
metal and
(ii) an alloy does not undergo oxidation easily even at high
temperature.
(iii)alloy have high melting point. (any two point)
Section C
27. Products: Hydrogen, Chlorine, Sodium hydroxide 3
Uses:
Hydrogen: In the production of margarine/ ammonia/as a fuel
Chlorine: Water treatment/ swimming pools/ production of PVC/
Disinfectants/CFCs/ pesticides.
Sodium hydroxide: Degreasing metal surfaces/ making soaps and
detergents/ paper making/ artificial fibres.
28. Metal oxides showing both acidic and basic nature/React with both 1+1+1
acid and base and produce salt and water
Example: Al2O3 /ZnO (or any other)
Al2O3 + 6HCl  2AlCl3 + 3H2O
Al2O3 + 2NaOH  2ANaAlO2 + H2O
OR
Anode: rod of impure metal M
Cathode: thin strip of pure metal M
Electrolyte: metal M salt solution
29. (i) Thermal decomposition reaction 1+1+ 1
2FeSO4(s) Fe2O3(s) + SO2(g) + SO3(g)
(ii) Photo decomposition reaction
AgCl(s) –---sunlight ---- Ag(s) + Cl2(g)
(iii) Electrolytic decomposition reaction
2 H2O (l) –--electricity 2H2(g) + O2(g)
30. An atom or a group of atoms which determine the chemical properties 1+1+1
of an organic compound.
(i) Ethanol
Structural formula:

Functional group : -OH

(ii) Ethanoic acid
Structural group:

Functional group: -COOH

31. a) hind brain (cerebellum ) 1+1+1
b) medulla
c) forebrain
32. (i) P=VI , I= P/V, I = 750/220 = 3.4 A 11/2+11
(ii) P= V2/R, R= V2/P , R= (220)2/750 = 64.53 Ohm /2

33. (a) 1+1+1

(b) Right hand thumb rule

When the current carrying straight conductor is held in the right hand
in such a way that the thumb points towards the direction of the
current, then the fingers will wrap around the conductor in the
direction of the field lines of the magnetic field.
Section D
34. (a) 2+3
(b) Structure: Nephron is the structural and functional unit of kidneys
It consists of a long coiled tubule, a cup shaped structure called
bowmen’s capsule and a bundle of capillaries called glomerulus.
Functions: (i) Filtration-it takes place in bowmen’s capsule from the
capillaries of glomerulus. The filtrate passes out into the tubular part of
the nephron. The filtrate contain glucose, amino acids, urea, uric acid,
salts and water.
(ii) Reabsorption: As the filtrate flows through the tubule useful
substance such as glucose, amino acids, salts and water are selectively
reabsorbed into the blood by capillaries surrounding the nephron
tubule.
The fluid entering the collecting tubule is called urine. It flows through
the ureters into urinary bladder, where it is stored and discharged
through urethra.
OR
(a) The organisms that live in water such as fish obtains oxygen for
respiration which is dissolved in water whereas the terrestrial
organisms take in oxygen directly from the air. Since, the amount of
oxygen dissolved in water is fairly low as compared to the amount of
oxygen in the air, breathing rate in aquatic organisms is much faster
than terrestrial organisms.
(b)
35. a) 2 +3
(i) By Dentists- concave
(ii) Shaving mirror- concave
(iii) Rear view of vehicles-convex
(iv) Searchlights -concave
b) Statement is correct
if the object is placed within 20 cm from the lens in the firstcase and
between 20 cm and 40 cm in the second case.
OR
(a)

(b) nga = Speed of light in air/ Speed of light in glass

= 3X108/2 X108 = 3/2 = 1.5
36. (i) Grass Insect frog Snake hawk 1+1+1
(ii) frog +1+1
(iii) Hawk
(iv) Bio magnification/ Biological magnification
(v) 1000 Joule
Section E
37. (a) Stamen 1+1+2
(b) Hibiscus, mustard etc.
(c) Cross pollination is a natural method in which transfer of pollen
takes place from an anther of a flower of one plant to a stigma of a
flower of another plant.
OR
(c) Ovary-fruit
Embryo- seed
38. (a) Tt 1+1+2
(b) Traits like ‘T’ are called dominant traits, while those that behave
like ‘t’ are called recessive traits./Alternatively accept the definition of
dominant and recessive traits with examples of T and t respectively
/Alternatively accept the law of Dominance with examples of T and t.
(c) Out of 800 plants 600 plants will be tall and 200 plants will be small
1 TT: 2Tt: 1tt
OR
(c) In the cross between Tt X tt, 400 Tall (Tt) and 400 short (tt) plants
will be produced.
1Tt:1tt
39. (a) Convex mirror has been been used in this situation as the image 1+1+2
formed was always erect irrespective of the position of the object.
(b) Convex mirrors are used as rear view mirrors in vehicles, as
security mirrors, as reflector in street lamps, etc.
(c) m = 0.2
u = -500
We know that,
m = -v/u
0.2 = -v/-500
Or v = 100 cms
Using mirror formula,
1 1 1
= +
𝑓 𝑣 𝑢
1 1 1
= +
𝑓 100 −500
1 4
=
𝑓 500
f = 125 cm
OR
(c) No the security guard would not be able to see similar type of
images of his friend if some other type of mirror like a plane or concave
mirror is used beacause only convex mirror always forms real, inverted
and diminished images of objects.
