Multiplication of Decimals

1. To multiply decimals, multiply the numbers as whole numbers and count the total number of decimal places in the factors. Place the decimal point in the product so that it has that total number of decimal places. 2. To multiply a decimal by a power of 10, move the decimal point in the decimal the same number of places as the power of 10. For 10, 100, 1000, etc, move the decimal point to the right. For 0.1, 0.01, 0.001, etc, move the decimal point to the left.
