(i) 7876 × 98

Ans: 7876 × 98
= 7876 × (100-2)

= (7876 ×100) – (7876 × 2)

one- third of the remaining he spends on his children’s education.

Find: (i) the money he gave to his wife

(ii) the money he spends on his children’s education

(iii) the money still left with the man

Solution:

Monthly income of a man = Rs 18000

(i)Money given to his wife = Rs ¿ ×18,000) =Rs 6,000

(ii) Money left with man = Rs (18000 – 6,000) = Rs12,000

Money spent on education = Rs ¿ ×12,000) = Rs 4,000

(iii) Money left with the man = Rs 18,000 – ( 6,000 + 4,000)

= Rs 18,000 – 10,000 = Rs 8,000

[4 x 2 = 8]
16. (i)In a class test containing 12 questions, 5 marks are given for every correct
answer and -2 marks are given for every incorrect answer and 0 marks are given for
questions not attempted. Rahul gets 7 correct and 5 incorrect answers. What is his
score?

Solution:

Total number of questions = 12

Marks given for a correct answer = 5

Total marks obtained for 7 correct answers = 7 × 5 = 35

Marks given for one incorrect answer = -2

Total marks given for 5 incorrect answers = 5 × (-2) = -10

Total score = 35 + (-10) = 25

Hence, Rahul scored 25 marks in the class test

(ii) The product of two integers is -180. If one of them is 12, find the other.

Solution: Let the unknown be x

The product of two integers = –180

12 × x = –180

x = –180 ÷ 12

x = –15

Hence, unknown integer is –15

17. (i) A car can cover a distance of 8.6 km on one litre of petrol. How far can it go on
36.5 litre of petrol?
Solution:

Distance covered in one litre of petrol = 8.6 km

Distance covered in 36.5 litre of petrol = 8.6 × 36.5 km

= 313.9 km

Hence, the car can cover 313.9 km

Solution: The cost of 1 kg of wheat = Rs 12.80

The cost of 36.75 kg of wheat = Rs (12.80 x 36.75)
=Rs 470.40

Hence, 36.75 kg of wheat cost Rs 470.40

(ii) Convert the decimal, 0.085 in the lowest form:
